For a channel that has been a big proponent of Apple products, I’m impressed by the transparency of this comparison. I’ve owned a SP3 back in the day and loved the tablet form factor back when it kinda sucked. I’ve also used a Samsung Galaxy Book 2 w/ an older Snapdragon processor before they started the 8cx models with only 4Gb of RAM (and 4G LTE), but it worked surprisingly well for mostly office tasks and media consumption. Using full fat MS Office was way better on that than my wife’s M4 WW-inch iPad Pro! I can use the mouse as a mouse and right click and everything. 😅 DeX mode on my Galaxy S8+ still doesn’t quite cut it, although the performance of that is way better than the old Samsung Galaxy Book 2 for most tasks. I will be buying the 5G Surface Pro 11 when it is released this fall and will finally have my Goldilocks device. Thanks for this great review.

This is how it was for me. I had an earlier Surface Pro but performance and battery life was sub par. Switched to an iPad Pro and was wowed by the design, performance, battery life. But the OS just really really sucked for productivity. I jumped on Surface Pro once again, as soon as the new ARM Pro 11 dropped. And I'm loving it! And while it's often buggy, it still surprised me that quite a few relatively modern games can run okay on the Pro. More compatibility out of the box than my iPad and Macbook had. Pro tablet, by definition, is for professional tablet users; it has never meant it has to support a desktop OS. There is a good reason why the Surface Pro has been on the decline the last two years, and that few OEMs now make these detachable laptops because they suck as tablets. MS has even gone as far as no longer calling the Surface Pro a tablet, killing the Android subsystem for Windows and reducing tablet apps to a few. The iPad has 1000X more tablet apps and is the true pro tablet, though the Tab S9 Ultra is a close second choice. But if I wanted a tablet, the SP11 would be nowhere.

It always does seem the Surface Pro overall is the choice if one can only get one of the 2. And really, for our household, spending the extra $2-3 thousand every year to maintain 2 systems is not workable in the long run. Apple's stubbornness in not making iPad OS more efficient in fundamental ways like MacOS really make's the choice of going completely Apple very difficult. If Apple doesn't want to put MacOS on the iPad then how about making a MacOS Finder/Disk Manager App for iPad OS that can replace the Files App.

Contrary to popular belief, the Surface Pro is not a hybrid. It’s a laptop, so the two items aren’t even comparable. The only thing that differentiates the Surface Pro from most other laptops is that its keyboard detaches. Nobody uses the Surface Pro for its tablet ability. I bought one and it was the worst tablet experience of any device, and I’ve had Amazon, Android, and Apple tablets. I own an Asus Zenbook Duo and it also has a detachable keyboard and touch screens (two of them). It doesn’t even pretend to be a tablet, even though it is just as bad a tablet as the Surface Pro. It is a laptop. I also owned a Surface Pro because I loved the idea of a hybrid. After that experience, I was turned off of hybrids completely because its tablet functionality was terrible and totally unusable. At least the Amazon Fire tablets had touchable touch targets, though it was pretty bad, too. The SP was only usable as a laptop, and a mediocre one at that. The Surface Pro should be compared to the Surface Laptop, not the IPad Pro. I swore off of ever buying another hybrid, though I once was the biggest fan of the concept. If you want a tablet, buy the iPad. If you want a laptop, don’t buy a Surface Pro. There are far better options than that.

@@ahaimes6320 I think the main problem that many people have with iPads is that Apple keeps putting increasingly powerful chips in them, but the software can't keep up. iPadOS is severely lacking in power and multitasking compared to macOS and that kinda makes it a waste of money to purchase hardware the OS will never fully utilise. Either put a more powerful and effective operating system in the iPad, or stop putting overpowered chips inside and then giving it sky-high prices.

I have been deciding on myself which one is better. The ipad is a tablet trying to be a laptop as people put it and the surface is a laptop trying to be a tablet question is which would you rather have. I am not an artist, so I dont really have a need to buy an expensive pen, hence why I might not need the ipad. Now I heard that some college students manage to get buy with just using an ipad, and it allows them to get the most work done. The issue i find is that ipad os is very limiting and keep in mind its like having a portable mac OS. You can have the best cpu ever but what good is that cpu if the software and operating system it uses sucks. You can word process on the ipad with apples apps 3rd party or Microsoft office but what i hate is the portable version of office is limiting. You cant multitask as well as you can on windows either. Not to mention since its an ipad eventually it will loose support and the updates might eat at the storage and slow it down as well. The surface is only stuck on windows for now i can see people developing linux distros that work on the surface eventually and since it has a uefi you can install linux distros when those become available which bring more life to your surface.

Apple should just make an iPad Pro with macOS (call it MacPad or whatever) so if I want iPadOS I can still buy the regular iPad Pro. As a software engineer I would love to be able to run anything on my iPad, I’ve been carrying the Magic Keyboard or the Logitech combo since I got it anyways so I always have mouse and keyboard, even if touch was not much comfortable I’d still use it

I'm not saying about ipad, this applies to Android tablets as well but I can't never seem to be really productive with my tablets. My first tablet was samsung tab 10.1 back in the old days of android and it was only useful for entertainment. Sold it and didn't buy any tablet until 2017 when I bought an ipad which only lasted me a year before I decided to sell it because I couldn't even open multiple excel files back then in the ipad os. Again, I went on a few years before I bought a new huawei tablet in 2022 which ended up as my netflix & youtube tablet. I gave it to my employee which seem could to find better use for it before switching to Tab S9 FE from Samsung. With S9 FE, at least I could get more things done than my previous tablets and it came with the pen for free & the capability of inserting sim card which is a huge win for me (because I use mobile hotspots all the time when I go out). Yet, still, I find that it couldn't rival the pc experience of a windows pc & laptop. The File manager isn't as easy to explore as windows and sometimes that a simple task on windows, could mean a heavier task on android tablet/ipad. Still, would I recommend android tablets/ipad for work? Yes, if you work revolves around google drives or creativity stuff like drawing, video editing, etc. Otherwise, just go for the 2 in 1 form factor that runs windows like the surface or lenovo ideadpad duet

Btw, can't wait to upgrade my SP6 to the new snapdragon elite one. I also think the new flex keyboard can give a big productivity boost to SP users due to the possibility of detachable use 😍

The high reflectivity of display just kills the surface pro. But I still have to buy a surface pro , because iPad functionality is so limited, but iPad display is simply the best of the best display of all. No questions about that.

I believe that Apple missed a great opportunity. A pro version of IpadOS that includes a Samsung DEX like experience would have been great. They could use a version of the Mac UI with some MacOS capabilities. The M4 Ipad should be something that could fill the gap between an Ipan and full blown MacBook. Have enough Mac capabilities for those that don't need a full Macbook or want something light to carry and use when their Macbook would be too much.
@darkiceywolf29532 ай бұрын
The thing about apple is they only release a product once it actually becomes successful they are more of wanting to run on a stable model they don't like to experiment as thats not thier user base. It's why they have patterns for folding iphones technically but have no made ones you can only but because thier waiting to see how the folding cellphone market does.

There is another problem with this video, over 50% of iPad pro users prefer the 11-inch, and the SP11 does not come in that size, so that may be a deal-breaker. Also, I can get an iPad Pro M4 11-inch and an M2 MB Air for the same price as the OLED SP11 with its keyboard! So, for me, an iPad and Macbook combo>SP11 OLED. Amazing, Apple is now the value choice versus the very overpriced SP11 OLED.

I wonder if there are any touch screen digitizers that would be compatible with MacOS, I kinda just want to Frankenstein /destroy a MacBook Air by turning it into a 2-1 that flips between an iPadOS-like interface when folded over, but switches back to a traditional “desktop mode” when flipped upright like a normal laptop. Just to show Apple and Apple fans, how beneficial this could be with an M-series processor. I love the surface pro hardware, but it’s still clunky ol’ Windows and their ARM exclusivity with QUALCOMM is holding them back.
@SweetSweetCandyBoyz6 ай бұрын
The biggest aspect holding Windows tablets back for years has been Intel and an inefficient x86 architecture. Now that Microsoft seems like to be putting some commitment behind ARM, the only thing holding Windows tablets back is Windows itself. Even just a boot up of Windows system for the first time is a half-day endeavor almost, between all the OS updates, software updates, firmware updates and account sign-ins.

The Surface Pro got better camera, speakers and microphones. The display of the Surface it is more brighter but the point is going here for the iPad, for better contrast, anti-reflection and colour accuracy. If I need to choose one I will go with Surface wich is better device for pro use like photo, video, music production or office.

I wish Microsoft would allow dual OS option, just like the Apple allows dual OS on its computers. I prefer MacOS over the windows. In terms of the hardware, I like the surface pro better over the laptops. I just can’t stand laptops. It is great that Apple are finally getting some competition, as they have been lacklustre since Tim took over focussed on short term profit it appears (lets hope he doesn't do a Commodore or IBM job on Apple, but it is looking that way as they have totally missed the AI boat having to rely on Microsoft for access to ChatGPT). Technology wise the Snapdragon is obviously a long way behind the M-series based on this comparison with a 12 P-core just beating an entry level 3 P-core M4 system in some areas. Qualcomm is trying predatory pricing in order to get established by offering much higher specced systems at entry level pricing, but that cannot last as they will be losing too much money.

MS has said that they will never do that again. It was a multi-billion dollar failure to make a Windows hybrid tablet, and MS even stopped Android on the Windows subsystem. Windows tablets make up less than 3% of the market share, and devs are not interested in making Windows tablet apps. Sensible people will either by an Android or iPad if they want a tablet.
