Also from a freelance artist's perspective, that rotate feature is one of the most wanted on my list. I use it a lot and it really comes with knowing your brushes. A work around I used was to rotate the canvas instead, but that will not work for certain effects/brushes and it will be really useful for those into calligraphy. At the same time, I'm not super excited about the squeeze feature considering my brush size, colors, and flow are all controlled on the right side with my hand ( I am left dominant) and already have the double tap feature to switch between brush and eraser. However, I have not used it yet so can't really say anything. None of the features are needs but rather rotating is something that I have been hoping would come for a long time.

As a daily iPad Pro user, the "Magic" keyboard is the bane of my existence. Not because the hardware is bad, or because of the missing keys, but because iPadOS just does not like to work with physical keyboards, first-party or not. For example, to use the password manger, I have to remove the keyboard so that the virtual keyboard would show up which contain the password-auto-fill button. In addition, almost every app I got does not work well with it. The keyboard overlay menus would block whatever in the bottom right corner (like the "send" button of a messaging app). That overlay also often cause the UI of apps to glitch out; at which point, I would have to un-dock/re-dock the thing. So... I don't care if things are changing, I will care when they are changed.
@hebestreitfan69739 ай бұрын

You can pick up the keyboard UI bubble and move it around. Move it to a corner to have it tiny and out of the way, flick to the other corner if there's a send button in the corner you need. Then drag it to the middle to get the big UI with the auto fill passwords and other suggested auto fills and flick it back away once you are done. No redocking required.
@bryanbuff9 ай бұрын
You don’t need to remove the iPad from the keyboard to use the password auto-fill. I use iCloud passwords all the time. Maybe try enabling predictive typing? Not sure why you’re not seeing passwords at the bottom of the screen.

Appreciate your thoughts, but the thing that you could've stressed on is the fact that the elephant in the room is iPadOS. It simply doesn't host powerful enough apps to really exploit the chip inside it, and that's why it seems mostly similar to the 2018 iPad despite being much more powerful on paper. The strengths you mentioned are real, but are for a niche audience nevertheless: the iPad would still struggle to be a great portable computer because of its OS. In that sense, the processor thing is just flashy and of little use.
@krazymeanie9 ай бұрын

@bryanbuff9 ай бұрын
Correct. I think he implied that with the “wireless” comment. Plus he saw it demo’d live in person, so I imagine he knows this.
@pkennethv8 ай бұрын
I haven't looked into iPad specific implementations, but from what peripheral knowledge I have in the imaging industry, there are already wireless HDMI transmitters. So you would plug the wireless transmitter into the HDMI output port of your camera. Typically, in the professional industry, these would use their own proprietary radio standard, and the signal is then received with another device that is then connected to a monitor via HDMI. I'm fairly certain I've seen online products that will just have the transmitter plugged into the camera turn itself into a WiFi hotspot that an iPad can connect to, but I have no first hand experience with them, and I would imagine there would be a signal camera limitation in that case. I'm not sure if such a product currently exists, but if there was a wireless HDMI receiver device with WiFi hotspot capability, then it would theoretically be possible. -- I would imagine latency would be worse with this, but theoretically possible: -multiple proprietary radio, low latency radio transmitters hooked up to each camera -multiple proprietary radio, low latency radio receivers to pair with the above -each of those receivers connected via HDMI to a multi-video-input device/controller/manager -the output of that controller into a single HDMI output, which is then connected to an HDMI to WiFi hotspot device, which the iPad wirelessly connects to

I saw an old video of Steve Jobs responding to a developer in the late 90’s telling him he doesn’t know what he is talking about concerning Java programs. His response was we don’t talk to engineers and then go to the customer. We start with the customer experience and then work our way from there. The user experience on iPad Pro is still so great. It’s so easy and user friendly for today’s apps and programs. As a personal device and not a work device it’s a killer. And I’ve been some of my best songs with GarageBand on iPad Pro. It’s capable of anything if a person is willing to use it daily. Which I daily for video calling, calligraphy, games, and especially games are phenomenal on iPad Pro. Currently swaping everything over for my company so I get a full "apple" workflow, last thing missing are the new mac studio pro when they are released.

I checked Apple’s website now and the cable is color matched to the iPad, if you get the silver one you get the white cable (on both models) and if you get the space black you get the black cable on both

I always appreciate Dave's honest reviews! @Dave2d, please show us your new setup on the iPad once you get it going!

2018 iPad Pro gang here! I am also tempted to upgrade to the new iPad Pro, finally.

Such a nice review. Watched probably like 4 about this product they were all just bs. This review cuts it and helped me know what I really want and why.

The 11" iPad Pro (in space black) also comes with the black charging cable. It's shows the color of the charging cable on apple's website during checkout (the "what's in the box" section)
The old apple pencil works with the new ipads, but the new apple pencil doesnt work with the old ipads. Funny isn't it?
@nitinanku6 ай бұрын
They don’t? The old Apple Pencil is not supported on the new iPads unless you have the USB C pencil, which was always made to work with these side camera iPads

I got a black braided wire with my 11 inch M4 iPad Pro also. 😅 But having spent a couple of days with my M4 iPad Pro, I can’t help but feel the M4 capability is being limited by the OS. Perhaps an updated iPadOS just for the iPad Pro?
@06bostonguy8 ай бұрын
I see your point, all iPads Pro can do the same for now, even the 2018 with the A12X chip but let’s see what WWDC brings to the table for iPad OS this year. I’m very tempted to upgrade my 2020 iPad Pro for the new M4 but I will wait to see what Apple does with all that power .

really straightforward and unbiased. And that is why I liked your reviews. Do you need it? Should you buy it? Is the upgrade worth it? Not to make decisions just because of the hype 🙌

the fact that new apple pencil won't work on older generations has nothing to do with teh magnetic system or camera positioning, it's just that they don't want it to work on older gen ipads. Anti consumer policies like always.

I'm still using a 2018 iPad Pro 11 in. It's done everything I've needed it to do. I am interested to see if they do change the landscape of what an iPad can do in WWDC, but I will believe it when I see it

Love your reviews and straight to the point no nonsense approach, just a observation on this video I wish you would leave the stats on screen a bit longer so we can read them before moving on, yes I know you can freeze the video to see the slides etc…🤔

Unless they were wrong on the Waveform Podcast, I believe the Final Cut Camera only works with iPhones as the cameras themselves, meaning that would not work with your set up unless all of your cameras are iPhones. If Apple stated otherwise and they have got this info wrong, I would be gladly corrected, but as of now I think that is the only way to get that feature working.

I picked up an M2 12.9" in December and was a tad annoyed that these came out so soon afterwards but it really seems like the new features aren't what I need for my job as a musician. Even the M1 will run Forscore super snappy but I like the M2 variant for having the preview when you hover your pencil above the display. Great review Dave

I too have the 2018 ipad pro and I too felt the need to upgrade after 6 years. Certain software and games were just starting to show wear and tear on the trusty 2018. I'm excited to jump from M0 to M4.

looks like M2 is better deal. also I have durability concerns about OLED.

Dave finally bringing back "thumbs if you like it, subs if you love it" is enough proof how happy he is with the new iPads!!

Blooming, pure blacks, and response time are all pretty significant aspects of a display. I’m sticking with my M1 Pro for now, but I’m definitely annoyed every time I switch from my OLED iPhone or TV to my iPad.

The cable is color-matched to the iPad. Your 13” came with a black cable because it is space black, and your 11” came with a white cable because it is silver.

I have an ipad pro 2020 and I love it! I use it everyday for work and there is absolutely NO reason for me to buy a new one until it dies. Good to go for at least 2 more years.
