I just grabbed a a handful of 20" ish 2x10 cut offs from different constructions sites and found they worked great. Plus you can use them as a base/ a little extra lift if you have to use a jack in the soft dirt/sand. So far, atleast in my experience I found that more than sufficient for what I need plus if they break I just grab a few more the next week. Added plus if camping you have guaranteed dry kindling by splitting one with as little as a large knife/ hatchet to start a wet fire

They can be used to level your vehicle when camping e.g camper trailer or even your vehicle. Also they're handy when camping on the beach as you can transfer the caravan/camper trailer weight more evenly when setting up and they assist you when you're packing up as the tyres aren't dun into the sand etc.

In deep soft mud, like Strzelecki after a downpour, drop your tyre pressure as low as 15 or even 10, maybe 8 psi before using your Maxtrax. If you try using them at 25 or even 20 psi, which is what you will likely be driving the track, until you get bogged, the mud will just hold you in the one spot and your tyres will just wear the Maxtrax studs down till they are useless. Dropping your pressure will make the tyre softer on the Trax and give your tyres a nice long footprint on the Trax maximising traction on the board, and increasing the ability of the tyre to grab the board. Additionally, take the time to dig as much mud as you can out from under the tyres so you can get the boards as far under them as possible. Also, dig the mud out from under the car if you cant see through to the other side, otherwise the mud will just hold on to the car. The more work you do in preparation the better the chance you will have of getting out first time and not burn the hell out of your Maxtrax rendering them useless for a second attempt.

We have used Maxtrax for a while now. We have used cheap versions and they don't come close to being as good. Last off road run we did I had Maxtrax 4 pieces. Two vehicles had the cheap version. The fake ones broke right away and we used mine. When we got back I got every bodies orders together and just made one order. I ordered 9 sets. Each set having 2 pieces. They are not cheap but EVERYBODY is happy with them. We keep finding new things to use them for. It was when I used my set to bridge over twice on two different logs. The third time was when there was a gap crossing and I used them as a bridge. They blew everybody away. I knew we were going to be ordering at least 5 sets before we were even halfway done off roading that day.

doesn't really matter for australia but a friend of mine has a set and we used them to get my VW jetta thats probably only 50-70mm off the ground for the front lip out of the snow one winter. They actually work really amazing in the snow. Not sure how they are on the ice but in 20-30cm of snow they are a life saver If you have the orange ones they would probably work pretty good if your car broke down and you're on the side of the road or highway, lean them against the back help for some visibility so oncoming cars see you a bit better.

Vehicle level. ruff terrain, and your camping up, and you want to sleep on a level angle in your roof top tent. Also if your clearing a large hole, and you want to recover them without getting yourself in the hole, tie a long cord to the boards, and the other end to your rear bumper. once you've cleared the hole, as you drive you will recover them without having to dig them out.

Thanks for this, even though it's a few years old now - still very applicable. Have you found more uses since creating this video? ..... (On the not of traction boards, I've got a set of X-Bull Recovery Tracks (I know, not maxtrax or treds) and they've been very helpful in numerous slippery situations with my weighed down '04 Tacoma, but I'd never use them as a bridge. Otherwise the cheap copies aren't too bad!)

Snow. Although you don't have it there so its fine. I'm from Washington state in the US and its very easy to get stuck in snow. Snow always has different consistency. I've gotten stuck in 6 inches of snow before because it was super wet snow (I only have a factory central diff locker (2001 Range Rover 4.6)). On the other side of the spectrum, I have driven straight through 6 feet of snow no problem (only sunk 3 feet). Maxtrax can be used in snow like they are used in deep mud, however they can be lost in the snow very easily.

Tip on how to make it easier to locate and/or recover your Maxtrax in muddy/bog hole conditions. Attach a long thin strap [preferably in bright colours] to each boards. Toss the loose end of the strap away from the track [to prevent it getting caught with the tyres]. When it's time to recover the boards, simply pull the straps to lift them out of the mud or use the straps to locate the boards [in very thick deep bog hole].

You can use them for 2wd cars too. Just last weekend I parked my VW transporter on the side of the road to unload my dirt bike. The right conditions can bog a 2wd pretty easily. Not many people think to carry them other than 4wd’ers. Mine are only cheap Aldi ones but they’ve paid for themselves a few times.

I just got a pair of these (I have four now), and went out in the sand dunes near Florence, Oregon. They worked better than I could have imagined. I saw several videos of these being used, but I always wondered if it wasn't a bit staged, or the sand wasn't as bad as it looked. I got stuck up to my rock rails, and wasn't budging at all, forward or back. I was aired down to 8psi, and fully locked front and back. I expected to do some digging, or hi-lift jacking, to get out, but wanted to try my new Trax just to see what happened. I scooped out just enough to sand to jam them behind the rear wheels, and didn't expect that to be good enough. That 6,200 pound piglet climbed right out of the hole like it was paved. I did learn that even with the straps out to the side, I nearly buried it all and would have had to dig for them. I'm thinking about using a couple tent stakes to stake the strap out to the side, or a longer rope to tie it to whatever bumper will go by last.

I never seen a video detailing this technique. On a really steep sand dune with no run up you can climb a couple of meters at a time. My technique was after I couldn’t go any further and the wheels dug down a little bit instead of trying to dig out in front or put the trax on a really steep angle, I backed up just enough for the wheels to pop up and then shoved the trax in on a fairly flat angle to the dune.

They work well to park on while camping, if solid ground isn't available. They also make an excellet platform so a bumper jack dosn' t sink into the ground. We all know trucks break down in the worst possible places.

Max tracks make a great doorstop, they keep the kids out of my office. Max tracks make a great back scratcher.

If you get stuck in sand or mud and you’re alone and have a winch with no recovery points ie trees etc you can dig a hole in the sand or mud and drop your max trax in there facing you and wrap your winch rope around it. You’ll need to dig out a line for the rope too.
