Maxwell-Boltzmann Distribution of Speeds

We derive the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution of speeds in a gas. Both one-dimensional (symmetric distribution) and three-dimensional speeds (skewed distribution) are considered. The skewness of Maxwell-Boltzman distribution is discussed in detail using a velocity space diagram. Examples of Maxwell-Boltzman distributions for different gas temperatures are presented.
