I bought one for myself few weeks ago. A bit expensive but considering the features I consider it as a great value for money. I like the battery size, very handy when using the device on long periods. It's like buying 3 devices in one.

The ethernet put is useful in hotels that have a ethernet port in the hotel room. This means you can create your own WiFi network which is good for privacy. It also avoids week signals, and slow hotel WiFi. If there is not ethernet port in your hotel room, you can use the WiFi repeater options. Which is great as you do not need to be next to the hotel door to get WiFi. Instead hand the Huawei WiFi thing on the door handle, so it has recetion and will relay the WiFi signal on to you in your hotel room. As well if there is no WiFi or it is overloaded, you've got the back up of mobile data. The huge battery will past all day, just charge it at night, and can recharge your phone from it if in a pinch.

Great review, Max! I wanted to ask you about the display. In other Huawei MiFi devices there is a menu button alongside the power button, so that you can access a few settings. Here I see only the power button and the WPS button. So, should I assume that there is no menu in this device's screen? You can't access any of the settings from the screen? So you need to do everything from the Hilink app or the web UI?

Hi! Yes, there is no menu button, so you need to use the app or the webinterface for configuration. Compared to other Huawei LTE Hotspots, the display is bad.

Does the Ethernet connection work both ways? One function is to use the E5885 to provide 3G/4G connection to a computer, the other is to be able to use an external Ethernet connection for the E5885 instead of using its 3G/4G modem.

Hi, this depends on the environment you are using the device. Usually, Wifi is as stable as ethernet, but if you are using it in a very crowded area with lots of wifi networks, for example trade fare or big exhibitions, the ethernet connection is the best way to get a stable connection.

Nice and smart presentation ... I'm more interested to use the internet (google maps) for my car with android navigator that support 4G. Just one question if possible ... please let me know if can be find out his estimated life time because of the battery that I understand is not possible to change so after the non-removable battery die can be replaced ? I think it can be possible but maybe is not easy ... does anybody know about and what is the procedure and the possible steps (I already ordered but need to wait about a month to have it...). Hi, you seemed to be an expert, could you recommend a mobile wifi that meets my requirements: 4G LTE advanced, dual band ac wifi (auto 2.4 and 5 Ghz) WPS, CAT 6, small size (dont need to have big battery or Ethernet port as it makes it bulky) Huawei model numbers really confusing me) dont want old model something from 2017. Hi. Yes, Huawei model numbers are very confusing. There are so many Cat6 devices out there. I would recommend Huawei E5785 (pretty small compared to most other Cat6 hotspots) or Huawei E5788 (nearly as small as the E5785 but with a much faster LTE Cat16 modem).

My complaint is the WLAN network is very very bad. Communication between two devices connected to this device is limited at about 30MB/s with mine even of 5Ghz. The other things it uPnp is not very reliable.

Please ask your local provider what frequency bands are used for 3G and 4G, then compare with the bands supported by the E5885.

Yes can be used worldwide including Philippines, BUT with Philippines having one of if not the miserably slow connection speeds with the likes of Globe and especially Smart offering weak signals and low MB download speeds... Why would anyone want to. It will be overkill. Me? I can use this to get atleast 50Mbps when using it as an extender, and around 30Mbps with a data SIM installed. No way could you get even 10% of those speeds in Philippines generally speaking. Peace

You could try to use the Huawei HiLink App for Android / iOS. The app is available in English. Otherwise, you can change the language in the webinterface.
