2:04 Sorry for the necropost! I have the same fan under the brand name "Commercial Electric" from Home Depot. There is a resettable fuse in this fan. I proved this by increasing the pitch of the blades beyond what the motor is designed to handle, causing it to overheat. It turned off for a few minutes then turned itself back on. Also, these are ball-bearings and not sleeve bearings (I tore the motor apart). Hope this info helps.
@JordanU8 ай бұрын
That's very surprising to me. These seem kind of cheapy made.

@@JordanU The only downside is that the capacitor that came with the motor in my particular fan, presumably due to years of use judging by the dust accumulation, has drifted and read 13 uF. Considering the amount of dust on your drum fan, I highly recommend that you test it and replace it if it is drifted, which it probably is. Also, the wiring is not secured in mine either. Furthermore, the cross braces holding the front of the motor up is OEM. It came with my fan too. Feel free to let me know if you would like more info about the drum fan.

Sorry for the necropost. There is no need to oil the motor as it is a ball bearing motor. The best you can do is apply grease to the ball bearings.

I'm not familiar enough with MaxxAir's product line to know, but my guess is the Pro models are probably better quality or intended for more commercial applications..

@@JordanU the blades on my whole house fan look nothing like the blades on this drum fan. It is a big and heavy well made blade and it has a motor 10 times bigger than the motor in this drum fan. Thailand is not China, TAIWAN is China. Big difference. So that motor is probably much better than a China one. That wiring above the tag didn't look too great... That slow speed is way too fast for my preferences, but I'll forgive it in that it's something that's meant to move a lot of air rather than a comfortable, quiet breeze. But something this big should have at least three speeds. Maybe it's a more budget model.
@JordanU6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I should have gotten out a map before the video.... I still don't like that it's made off shore, but at least that gives it a little more promise.. I don't care for that wiring at all,, those connections should really be at least secured to something, if not enclosed in a box.. I'll investigate it when I open it up for cleaning and servicing, if there's enough slack for that to get near the blades, then a re-wire will be performed.. I share the same opinion.. I saw another video of this fan and it seemed like the slow speed was a lot slower.. I read somewhere that low is rated at 2,800 CFM and high is 4,000, so our perceptions are accurate.. I think your theory is correct, it's not meant for small areas or personal comfort where control over the air is desired.. It's meant to move a lot of air though a large area.. I don't think this is a budget model.. I have another MaxxAir fan, and it doesn't bear the Pro label.. So if anything, I'd wager these are the higher-end of their productions.. I looked at a number of other models, all the way up to the 60" versions all only have 2 speeds.. Ironically enough though, my non-pro MaxxAir has 3..
