I installed the base version of this fan on my cargo trailer in late '17 and its still going strong, the lift mechanism has gained some extra looseness compared to new but it has seen near daily use since installing it. Can move some serious air if you need it to.

On my Lance 650 I had a Fantastic fan in the rear when I bought it, but I added the Max Air fan myself over the bed area, the deluxe model with the remote, even though it’s right within easy reach. So I use the Fantastic one to push hot air out and the Max to pull air in on us while sleeping and it can be set for 10%, 20%, 30%, which are perfect due to the quietness. At least until our last trip when it started chirping on the slower speeds. There’s a couple KZbin videos that show how to take the motor apart and clean it as apparently as the motor brushes wear, the deposits can build up. Not hard to do, just wish it never started making noise and apparently a brushless motor might have been the better solution from the factory, but price matters for many. Just wish we had the option of a super deluxe model with a brushless motor.

How much does this vent extrude on the roof past the 14x14 cutout? I ask because directly behind my vent opening on my roof is a skylight and I am afraid that it is too close together. Thanks!
@AZExpert4 жыл бұрын
about 4 inches

Have you installed a vent where you had to penetrate the roof? My Coleman 192 TT only has one roof vent and I'd like to have two Fan-Tastic vents installed. My thought is I could run two on low and have about the same airflow and power consumption as one running on high. High on the Fan-Tastic vents is quite loud.
@AZExpert5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have cut holes for vent many times. If possible I contact the factory first, examine the roof to locate structure(do not cut trusses/supports) to only cut the ceiling panels and roof deck. I also like to make sure that there are no wires or A/C ducts by removing lights or other ceiling components to look inside the ceiling. You'll also need to make sure you can run power to the new opening. Other than that, it's pretty striaght forward to drill holes and the corners of the 14 x 14 hole and connect them with a jigsaw. Be warned it can be messy if its a foam roof and protect the floor for when the chuck falls down. Thanks!
@knutblaise94375 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your insight into this! The existing vent is in the bath and I'm thinking of adding the second one just outside the bathroom so both fans will be between the same trusses about 4-5 feet apart. The existing 14 x 14 hole looks like it is framed with maybe 1 x 3 lumber so I'm going to just try to replicate that and tie into the power of the existing vent. I just hope I don't fall through the roof when I'm up there :-) BTW it would be cool to see a video where you show safer ways of getting on an off a roof. I was thinking of installing an eye bolt somewhere along the edge of the RV roof's edge, dicor it up, and when climbing onto the roof connecting the ladder to the eye bolt using a carabiner. The hope is if the top of the ladder is not moving the bottom should not either.
@AZExpert5 жыл бұрын
@@knutblaise9437 14 x 14 is the standard opening. As long as you don't hit a truss, you don't even need to frame the opening. As far as getting on the roof safely, I just meant to use caution. I tend to be very unsafe when climbing on a RV roof...lol. I am not sure an eye bolt is something I would recommend as it could lead to a leak. I would just make sure I had a quality ladder. Thanks!

I'm looking into these to replace the original FanTastic units in my 05 Vectra at some point. I know you use 100% silicone under the mounting flange, how about to over the screws and top of the flange? Dicor?
@AZExpert5 жыл бұрын
You need to use Nuflex 311 self leveling silicone. No matter how well you clean the roof, some of that sealant will remain and nothing else will stick to it. You can buy in on amazona or Campingworld or a Winnebago dealer. Not every RV stocks this sealant. Here is a link to a video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2W7qZ6OobJ6eqM

What's the minimum height required for them to work? I've got a roof rack with solar panels so theres not a lot of room between the roof and panels.
@AZExpert4 жыл бұрын
I don't know the minimum. Closed it is around 4" high, but open I never measured.
@daddymike205 жыл бұрын
Was that proflex used to seal the base then 311 over the screws?
@AZExpert5 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. No, on a Winnebago roof, I used standard white 100% silicone. You can use the 311 nuflex instead but it tends to flow and leak inside onto the floor if you're not careful. The Nuflex 311 is a silicone so it will stick to other silicone. It's a bit more expensive too so I like to leave that for the exterior too. Now, Winnebago uses a black tar like butyl sealant, but as it makes a huge mess and I don't trust the 1/8 panel to compress it enough so that's why I use silicone underneath. Also, as a follow up, this is the method Winnebago uses for the Winegard TV antenna and satellite dishes, so it's factory approved. Thanks!

Well, I must say a lot has been learned from your videos. This video I disagree with your opinion. And that’s ok! Please hear out my point of view. You reside in the Southwest and us in the Southeast. So, right there is a huge difference. Both get lots of sun but the southeast gets more sun damage to plastic. I have the older Maxxair fan plus 4500 (x2) and replaced one because the motor was noisy (we are work camper /full timers). I installed the new Maxxair fan deluxe 7500 (sorry if the numbers are off a bit) both fans are 10 speed, reversible, rain sensor, temp controlled with power lid. Remote control capable.The Maxxair deluxe lets in way to much heat compared to the older style (with a vent cover). The Maxxair fan deluxe transmission has gone bad twice in under 2 years. It breaks in the down position 👍 But it’s also a pain that the grease installed from the factory leaks inside the camper. It took me a while to find this. Called Airxcel to report this, it’s a large company. I just wanted to report it. In my opinion the Maxxair fan plus is a better fan. The vent covers help block excess heat and the newer version vent cover has large removable pins so the vent cracks you mention(which was a problem) is no longer a problem for the semi-annual roof inspection/ cleaning we do. Early summer I had the vent cover for the “Plus” fan covered with flex armor roofing material which made for less heat entry. Thanks for reading 👍
@AZExpert3 жыл бұрын
That's good information. I have had a few motor failures but compared to a fantastic vent, I have had to do little work on these vents. Of course, I do not like "motorized" lids either and the remotes are all cheap for all the manufacturers. My favorite feature is the serviceability of the vent and no one seems to understand how difficult removing the maxxair vent covers is even though it "only 4 nuts"
@hatenlebron3 жыл бұрын
Are the fan motors the same in the MaxxFan Plus and MaxxFan Deluxe? There is no CFM info in the spec's. Thanks
@22howards3 жыл бұрын
@@hatenlebron while I have no way of properly measuring this in “my” opinion I feel virtually no difference and measuring the wind speed with a cheap Anemometer they measure the same. Are there differences, sure, but what is your end goal? One could make the argument for the plus and the this could also be done for the older version also. Not sure what you are chasing with CFM however the more CFM you move there will be extra current draw also. I’ll stick with my old school fan in the Southeast for sun load and UV protection. Hope this helps.

Thx. I have the standard Winny fan in my rig with the Maxxair cover on top and it's pretty weak. Just wondering if I should change the fan and keep cover or replace entire unit with the Deluxe.
