I have a 2018 Prostar and my buddy and I replaced the EGR valve without having to dismantle the console and dash. We removed the old valve and installed the new valve from the engine bay where it was located as seen in this vid. It was tight and challenging and it took about 5 hrs, but it was doable.

Ok i just did the same job bro but just to make sure it wasnt stuck manually or a plugged doser but the two looked good.....but i cannot get rid of red check engine soot level 3 and baked filter also about to regenn wish me luck btw you're a good technician.

Thank you. If you are using the diagnostic tool from International (Service J1939 or NAV tool). Pay attention to the DPF pressure sensor, perhaps the sensor is bad and be sure DPF temperatures are in range, a little advice before you open other things.

So I have codes spn0027/spn0639. My truck has new high/low egr coolers, egr valve was cleaned out in July. Truck had lost power and going 65mph only. Then I came to a stop and wouldn't run without boggling. I removed the pipe from my DOC just to make it home, I did see blue smoke coming out, 5miles after my truck was running good.

There is a high probability that your DPF is clogged, the cause for the blue smoke needs further investigation but usually is for burning oil, my advice is to get an estimate for the repair, if the shop is going to charge you more than you think it is worth your truck, then I think is time for get a more reliable truck like Freightliner. Of course, this is my personal opinion, thanks for watching and support the channel.

hello! thanks for the video, question: can a leaking egr cooler put coolant in oil ? my truck is trhowing a lot of vapor !!

The EGR cooler cannot mix coolant with the engine oil, when the EGR cooler leaks, the coolant can go to the intake side and start to mess with the Aftertreatment System (ATS). However, if your coolant is going to oil side, in this case when you drain the engine oil, if you can see stain or drops of coolant coming out of it or if the oil is milky color, this means that probably the engine oil cooler might have a leak which is unlikely because usually in this case oil goes into the coolant side. Commonly for the vapor coming out from your crankcase/oil separator or from the oil filler pipe, your engine head might be the issue for it or perhaps a crack in a cylinder liner. If your engine is making a rough noise or it is NOT smooth at idle, you should take your vehicle to a shop for a proper diagnostic. I hope this help you and thanks for watching.

Can a bad egr prevent a regen?

Yeah, manufacturers like international or Paccar they might allow you to do it, but it might not finish, running indefinitely it is one of the symptoms. Others like Volvo and Freightliner does NOT allow the regeneration unless you fix the issue with the EGR valve or actuator.

Does the coolant leak when removing the EGR valve or when you remove the cooler?

It will leak when you remove either the EGR valve or the EGR cooler. You should drain the coolant for any repair of those parts.

Hi I wanted to ask you I changed my EGR valve and coolers on the weekend. I had someone help me and I wanted to ask if you had any electrical problems after that because my mirrors and my switch pack like dump suspension and sleeper dome light does not work anymore. My wipers keep moving and I can’t turn them off.

Not really, if you did remove any connection from your dashboard, like in the video, just make sure everything is connected the way it should be. But even, like that your mirror should work properly regardless of that. If the person who help you knows about it, try to contact him/her again, perhaps he/she will remember something that you do not. Thanks for watching the video.

Not sure if you figured out the problem yet. But I just wanted to mention that the load shed relay is located on the doghouse, if you fast forward to around 4:10 of this video you will see it. has 2 big power cables going to it. If one of those cables are loose or connector is unplugged, it will cause some accessories not to work. Also, if the big cables are loose or off, it can cause the wiper motor to stay on. I would check it and make sure.

Got a code for egr valve and turbo sensor. Old egr can still be moved open with finger's. Can it still be bad even though i can do that.

Yeah, it should be possible to calibrate it with servicemaxx. It is just now they called NED (Navistar engine diagnostic).

yea but doesn't every type of engines have problems

Yeah, but this engine in particular we agreed with other technicians and drivers that is one of the worst engine made by Navistar. Fortunately, Engine A26 has a better design, not the best one but, at least, Navistar is doing the effort to fix the problem, interesting that now they have a partnership with Volkswagen. Good question, we do not have 2015 models anymore but in the engine A26, international fixed couple things on the exhaust side, less sensors and one single turbo are few of the major changes. In my point of view, (our fleet has truck 2019 models barely in the 300,000 miles) once those trucks hit 500,000 miles will see if the engines can last, for now, engine A26 is in the middle (so so engine).

You could delete the EGR system if you want but the units we had actually never got issues beyond the check engine light, few of those even passed regeneration with the EGR issue going on. So, I cannot say if that will do any difference. Personally, I do not support messing around with electronic parts because later on cause damages to other parts. This is my personal opinion and good question.

Why was truck symptoms? How do you know if egr and/or fuel pump is going bad ? Please Help I see 2013s for a decent price...some with a over a million miles So I’m assuming they had to run at some point

We found the problem with NAV software tool, check engine light were on. By experience, Maxxforce 13 has a really bad reputation. Do not think just about price. Many technicians agreed that was a great disappointment from Navistar. If you are planning to start your own trucking business, Freightliner might be the best way to go. International A26 (the new engine from Navistar) might be better but still new ( around 2 years in the market) so we will see how perform down the road. Of course, this is my personal opinion. Try to make your research and decide wisely. Thanks for watching.

If the EGR actuator has free movement and the ECU move it without issues, it should be fine. The EGR cooler seems to be more complicated to remove than just the EGR actuator, In other words more labor. So, keep that in mind.
