Note on the whole Maxxis weight thing: Weight didn't actually increase. It's just that Maxxis in the past claimed their tires to be lighter than they actually were. Usually in reality they would be roughly 100g heavier than what Maxxis said. Now they just quote the weight more accurately.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
That’s a shame but I have definitely experienced some of them being over what they claimed so I believe it. Some have been spot on though.

I think the most I ever paid for a Maxxis was $55 two years ago. I haven't bought tires since. I wouldn't pay $90 each either. I think my next set will be American Classic.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
That’s crazy, second person to mention American Classic. They do look really good and if I hadn’t just put on a new set of tires, I’d give them a shot.

You are right, just weighted a new 2.4WT/3C/EXO MT 950gr it also felt softer rubber

That’s crazy. I just put on 2.4 Forekasters front and rear and was thinking I should have gone Rekon rear instead for something lighter but that makes them basically the exact same weight give or take a couple grams.

Yep, Schwalbe is looking better and better the more I look into them. Although I recently put on some new Vittoria tires so I’m going to stick with those for a while.

The past couple of months sent me searching for other tires that it the spec that I need too. I discovered Classic Tires on Amazon. I thought that it was worth a go because they are $50 each. Tectonite in front, Basonite on the rear. Great tread pattern on both. I have had enormous succes with them on my Banshee trail bike. They have a thick side wall that is reinforced. No slashes so far from the rocks down here. When the tires on my Marin Alpine trail 7 wear out I want to try them on that.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
Yeah I have seen them and heard good things. I really wanted to try their Mauka on the rear and one of the more aggressive ones on the front but the Mauka was never in stock.
@Graeleaf Жыл бұрын
@@downtoridemtb If you are interested, there is one Mauka left in stock in 29 x 2.4. I just looked.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you checking on that but I just put in a new set of tires a couple weeks ago… that I painstakingly researched and chose… so they’re staying on a while. American Classic is definitely going on my list though!

Ebikes are the main justification, probably. They can keep making their weight weenie tires, but what I'd like to see is a beefed-up version of their Holy Roller. More tread, tougher sidewalls.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
I’d think with e-bikes you’d just go Exo+ or DD because the extra weight doesn’t mean much but who knows

Hi, again fellow! I heard you have a large arctic storm in the area, stay safe! Where I live is about 15 Celsius degrees but not nearly as cold. Snow here is rare
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
Hi Omer! Yeah it is extremely cold so we are just staying indoors. No bike riding for me. It would be nice if there was some snow along with the cold but it is dry. Around here, It usually rains then a cold front comes in after. 15 Celsius would be amazing right now!

@Down to Ride MTB and the roads aren't freezing? And It started to rain in my area btw
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
Nope, after the rain it was sunny and incredibly windy so it dried the roads up. Then it got cold.

@Down to Ride MTB your area is often snowy or rainy? Oh and Merry Christmas though I am not celebrating this holiday.
@downtoridemtb Жыл бұрын
@@omeriluz9800 thanks. Happy holidays to you for however you celebrate in your part of the world. To answer your question, it’s usually rain here. Maybe 1-2 times it snows per year but even then it melts pretty quickly.

There are so many of these budget oriented brands that actually look good. Delium, Versus and American Classics. Probably others too. But I’ve gone with something not quite as cheap as those.

Maxxis tires seem to be pretty heavy. Equivant tires made by other companies seem to be a bit lighter.
@downtoridemtb8 ай бұрын
I’d say they are kind of middle of the road. Definitely similar tires from other brands that are heavier. Definitely some lighter too. I haven’t run Maxxis in like a year and a half but I plan to go back to them on my next set.

Oh wow! I didn’t know the Rekon 2.4WT/3C/EXO/MT used to weigh in at 840g. I have a new one and it weighed in at 937.6 grams. The actual weight of my new DHF 2.5WT/3C/EXO/MT is 1070g. Buy from BackCountry or Competitive Cyclist via ActiveJunky to get a cash back + rewards from BC/CC. I buy mine around $75 otd.

Yeah that definitely brings the Rekon out of the lightweight territory but at the same time pretty much in line with similar tires from other brands. Thanks for the ActiveJunky tip.
