I agree, Andy. There's just something about the 80s that makes horror better. I think it's because it was the last decade of mystery, before cameras caught everything we do, before the internet, before DNA testing. Things were still scary.

All-seeing eyes are scary
@vitorafmonteiro4 ай бұрын
@@thefinegameofnil7158 Also true, but us knowing there's all-seeing eyes all the time on all of us at least removes mystery and makes it seem more like a routine inconvenience than a threat. Let's say, it is more an all-knowing, all-seeing God you respect as much as you fear than a monster or danger you fear alone.

To be fair to Spider-Man 3 it was more of a studio monster situation. What works in it, really does work; After all it's a good picture for what it's worth. In the end Sony Pictures gave Sam Rami so many mandates and/or requirements he had to pack into into the final product, it's a miracle something coherent of a plot could be told at all. So I applaud him for making what he was able to, and after all I'll never be able to hate what brought Bully Maguire into this world.

My ranking of the X Trilogy: 1. Pearl (It's so fun, yet so dark, and the character of Pearl both scares and delights me) 2. X (I love the themes of time, cycles, and wasted opportunities) 3. Maxxxine (A very nice wrap-up, though the climax is indeed messy, and Mia Goth is out of this world, as always) Great video as always, Andy! Have a good day!

Being fair to Return of the Jedi, it did help shape me into the woman I am today. That Gold Bikini, watching it on dad's old VHS first lead me as a little girl to realize that I liked other women in a different kind of way. As for Maxxxine, let's just say that Pearl is the one of the trilogy I liked the least, and still gave it an A-, so the trilogy on the whole gets an A average from me. X was the one I liked the most if you're wondering. Anyways, enjoyed the video. Thank you, Andy.😢

Thank you Andy. This is the fairest review of this film I've seen and its helpful. When I watched it, I liked it but I found it disappointing, probably because I guessed the killing 2 mins in. But more likely because Pearl is one of my favorite movies ever made and Maxxxine didn't come close to reaching it, for me. So again, I liked it, it was just a bit of a let down, I also felt it kinda shits on X a little but maybe I'm reading too much into it. So thank you for pointing out some issues I had with it. I enjoyed MaXXine well enough but was a bit let down. The climax went full Hot Fuzz, and while that's a great movie I don't think MaXXine was meant to be overly satirical. I graduated in 1985 so I really thought I'd get more out of the 80's setting, but wasn't feeling it. Ti West really needed to shoot on 32mm for a Dressed to Kill/Taxi Driver kind of vibe. imo

I had a great time with Maxxine it’s an tribute to Giallo thrillers, Neo Noir and video nasties of the 1980s but also the whole American culture of that time with “Satanic Panic” the acting is phenomenal Mia Goth commands the screen as Maxxine and the supporting cast is also fantastic and an great soundtrack. it’s my second favourite of the trilogy

While Pearl is still my personal favourite of the trilogy, MaXXXine might have just edged X out for the number two spot. As a big fan of 80s movies - horror, action, sci-fi - I really appreciated how it homages the style of the decade and how, like how the nightclub felt like a nod to Terminator, the sunsets looking right out of Top Gun, the neon lighting and leather gloves being standard giallo tropes. Only problem is I feel like it’s less watchable on its own the way Pearl and X were, but that’s a VERY minor gripe.

I enjoyed it, but it needed one last draft. - I would have cut out a majority of the backlot scenes, have Maxine not get the role a hour into the movie, and only keep the filming of the actress eating the apple with Maxine talking to her after. Have the movie instead focus more on solving the murders. - Other things I would have cut were mentioning the Night Stalker and protesters. The Night Stalker overshadows the killer in the movie. The background protesters were just a distaction. Nobody did that in the 80s. - I didn't feel the movie was 80s gritty enough. It should have looked like Vice Squad (1982). I can't wait for your Longlegs review!

I enjoyed the movie and thought it was a good end to a trilogy, even if the giallo plot wasn't as good as it could've been (I would've preferred a Harvey Weinstein-type producer/studio head with his friends and who had made pacts with the devil that needed to be repaid - to be the villain instead of Maxine's Dad OR even Pearl's son hunting her to avenge his dead parents). This still was a solid trilogy and both Ti West and Mia Goth made an excellent series together, especially with the latter giving some of the best acting I've seen in horror since The Witch, A Cure for Wellness, and Hereditary.

Yeah I liked this, but it was very uneven. It has some 80s callback 'suspense', but other than that and some graphic violence it's not really a horror movie. I wanted something different from the killer - maybe have the killer be completely unrelated to Maxine's story, and just have her and the private investigator run afoul of this psychopath. I think I would've preferred that to the direction the film went. Still not bad, some good performances, well-filmed, but not as good as Pearl. I feel like the theme of the film was: Maxine will do literally anything on her quest to seek fame. That's what the theme should have been (which is why the twist is what makes the film so uneven, bc it muddies the waters a bit). Idk - there was just something missing, as if they were afraid to paint Maxine's character in too-negative a light, or something. Hard to put my finger on, atm.
