I'm a student who is currently living in Dresden. My main reason to move here was that it was affordable and has a global high ranked university. It's true the city is really good. I call it my home. It gives you a vibe of a big city as well as a town. The city is also quite international and one thing is, living here you can make double your monthly living expenses as a part-time worker, i.e 1200€ and monthly expenses are 600€

I am a student and i am currently living in kiel. I would say it is the most underrated student city in Germany. It is the best city for student i would say. With 200-300€ you can easily manage accommodation here(also private accomodation). There are lots of student jobs here, like working in the cruise ships to working in Gastronomie, Supermarkts etc. I have visited almost every city in Germany and have my friends in almost every cities, kiel is the best city for students..people here are also really good and helpful here. You have lots of things to enjoy especially in summer like kieler Woche. Also other beautiful cities like Hamburg, Flensburg, Lübeck etc are very near. I did my masters in Gießen. The cities universities together may have 45.000 students, but a pretty high percentage of them are not living in the city. Therefore there is not really much going on in the city for nightlife. And the proximity to Frankfurt led to rents being fairly high outside official student accommodations. And it's not that easy ro get a room there so there is a high chance you have to rely on the free housing market.
