They won’t. I don’t even think Sony will last another 3-4 years selling smartphones, let’s be real. Their marketshare is so small that doesn’t even reach 0.5% of worldwide devices. And it keeps shrinking, even in Japan Sony has now a very small marketshare of like 4%, it was where Xperia phones had a stronghold due to being their home country but no more. I doubt many people love paying 1300 dollars for a phone in a cheap cardboard box without even a simple cable

Instead of 2 next to next year update you can do this - give an update 2 or more year later and give the 2nd update another 2 or more year later with latest Android version. This way 2 update is good. Every year update of android is not good and do not give major features much. Skipping one year to two year is better than giving just 2 year next to next update which ruins experiences.

@@adriantryingstuff based on the leak it says 85mm to 170mm. The previous have 5.2x max zoom range and this new one have more than that but lower than 10x zoom samsung s23 ultra have which is 230mm. I don't know if it's the correct focal length s23 ultra use, i use the information from gsmarena

It's my opinion that the Xperia phones are produced as a test bed for their Alpha camera software interfaces. Imagine an Alpha camera with Android and the easy ability to stream videos, upload, etc.

Would be nice if they used periscope even for the main camera. Like 24 to 50mm for the main camera, and then 85mm and beyond for the telephoto. That way there isn't that huge of a gap.

The only limitation of periscopic cameras is small sensor size. May be we'll reinvent image sensor for better sensitivity despite of low pixel pitch.

It's well known optical zoom lens is less sharp compare to prime lens, hence maybe one shouldn't expect all these newly developed optical zoom lens coming to smartphone can suddenly replace all the multiple fixed focal lengths lenses on smartphone right now and still need to wait few more years for the quality to catch on, even it's sharp it will be artificially sharpened?

What you're saying doesn't make sense. You get 3 lenses on a modern smartphone anyway, why would you rather settle for a fixed telephoto camera instead of a periscope that may not be the sharpest at the high end? It's literally more options. I own a 5 III and both the 75 and 105mm options I use often. 105mm is softer, so its use case is for more reach without much concern for detail. 75mm is used for re-framing and is perfectly sharp. Big sensor or not it all comes down to the processing anyway. What matters the most in smartphone telephoto cameras is the processing (obviously), reach and brightness of the lens. Even small sensors work fine if your lens is bright enough. And on top of all that, Sony came out last year with their first mobile stacked sensor. Could easily use that tech in the telephoto, lowering noise while still keeping the sensor small enough for this application.

We need greater charging capabilities, 30W in a high end device is not acceptable in 2024 standars, we need at least 50W, it's a damn 5000 mha, it'll take 2 hours to charge it with a 30W charger, also, going from 4k to a 2k screen is a major mistake, how are we supposed to see our pics in 4k if the phone can't display 4k? Or does that mean no 4k pics and video capabilities in this new phone? If you're gonna compete with Samsung and IPhone, then make sure to be at level, price isn't really the problem imo is just Sony being lazy, listen to your fans Sony, the Xperia V was a success so why downgrade the phone? It is clear a high end device isn't cheap so don't come up with (we are downgrading some things to make it more affordable) argument, that's not the main reason.

@@JoeGillian0 yes you indeed need a 4k screen, how else can you see your own pics and videos in 4k if your device doesn't come with a 4k screen? The solution here is to do what they did in the Xperia V, give us the 4k screen and make the 4k usable only in certain situations like they did with the V.

@@elnewbie2611 seriously no because at 6.5 inches the Xperia screen is too small to notice a difference with 1440p screen...Also most of your shootiing will be done in another aspect ratio than 21:9. probably 16:9 that the Xperia screen will not be able to display in real 4k anyway. a 4k monitor screen is useful to edit photos and videos....

As always, Sony will deliver a brilliant phone, I'm sure of it. Still using my Xperia 1 as a workphone and a Xperia 1 III as my personal phone. Temped to upgrade but both are still in mint condition and working flawlessly. But you know what I miss from Sony, and we are way overdue? A new Xperia tablet. (They were suposed to focus on tablet PCs after giving uo on Vaios, but after the Z4 tablet, nothing else was launched...) A new smartwatch, Smartwatch 4, or even rebrand ad Xperia Watch 1.
