@@Ghovilord Some people pay for the best sound they can get, and want to hear what they paid for. You simply can't do that with Bluetooth and Spotify. The phone market shifted to wireless because they realized that most people just don't care about how good their content sounds. Sony; however, kept sound, video, and camera quality higher than the standard, because their phone was supposed to be a gateway to the rest of their technological offerings for the average consumer. The problem is that the average consumer could never justify paying the exorbitant prices Sony continued to charge for its mobile devices, and now the Xperia brand is losing it's premium identity to pander to the broader market...which is never a good sign for any company. But today I ordered the Xperia 1, I found it for €930, great deal. When I see the size, the incredible aesthetics, the power, the battery, the photo/video camera, the Bravia calibration, the 120hrtz, the brightness, being able to choose the White point (D67, D65, D63) in the settings of the screen, the front speakers, no photo module on the screen, external SD card (given the quality of photos/videos/applications/games it's heavy), the mini Jack socket, the supported audio formats , an Android close to the Google Pixel, for me it is the ultimate premium smartphone overall. Dolby Vision is just missing, only the iPhone offers it from memory. As much as Sony has for years designed somewhat niche smartphones, this smartphone really deserves to be highlighted! When I see that DxOmark hasn't even done a test, the biggest KZbin videographers, it's quite shameful compared to the work of the brand to change everything and offer an excellent device to the general public.

Because the Xperia 1 VI is not giving me that true flagship vibe so far 😔 unlike it's predecessors when launched. Makes me love my 1 IV even more. Thus, from time to time, I will rewatch the 1 IV's launch film just to see how stacked it's features are compared to this 1 VI.

I'm actually seriously considering getting this phone, but my biggest gripe with it is the lack of updates in comparison to other brands. I currently have a Samsung phone, and because they've done away with their SD card slot and headphone jack, I've been looking for a new phone with these features. I remember loving my Sony Xperia XZ, so I'd trust their Xperia line enough to buy a flagship today... The problem is that I will pay extra to have something that lasts. I typical use my phone for 3-5 years before buying a new one, and I've actually had my Samsung for 5 years. To me, only updating the phone for 3-4 years tells me that either they don't think the phone will last, or they want to force your hand into buying a new one. Additionally, in my country expensive electronics (phones, laptops, fridges etc.)are by law expected to last for a minimum of 5 years, which means that you are legally entitled to a phone working as advertised for 5 years. The updates are a part of the phone's functionality, and I'm surprised they didn't consider that one might possibly be entitled to getting a new phone or money back because of that. There haven't been any cases for or against this as far as I've seen, but that leaves them open to potential monetary loss just because they don't update as long as other brands do. *I really don't understand why they won't update the phone for longer, it's basically the only thing holding me back from buying it.*

When I choose a smartphone, I place the most importance on the camera. Therefore, a 4K display, which is disadvantageous in terms of brightness when shooting outdoors, was not necessarily necessary. I liked the 21:9 aspect ratio, which is easy to hold with one hand, but I understand that the cost performance of a custom display was not good. Another attractive feature is that the battery life has increased dramatically by changing from 4K to FHD+ this time. 1VI users will realize that the battery draining in an instant has been a major stressor until now. When the battery runs out, the smartphone becomes just a board. So is it a good idea to dangerously increase the charging speed? No. Increasing the charging speed will shorten the battery life. The best way is to reduce power consumption. Sony chose that direction this time. I agree with it. Are those who criticize the fact that the 4K display has become FHD+ choosing smartphones only based on the display resolution? I have serious doubts. Also, have those who lament the fact that it has become FHD+ really supported 4K Xperias until now? If so, the Xperia's share would have been much larger. But the reality is that 4K displays would not have expanded market share, and Sony simply had to deeply rethink what was really important in a smartphone in order to survive.

I own the Xperia IV and I've had a Sony phone since the Z1. I've never complained about their update decisions and design choices. However, I have some major issues with the VI. I love the 21:9 ratio, in my hands it fits comfortably and watching movies on it is a dream. The move away from 21:9 is a disappointment but it's something I can live with. The move from 4k to 1080p however is absolutely disgraceful. For a phone that costs £1299 and is a flagship for 2024, I expect at least a QHD display to be in line with what Samsung and Apple offer. I have no idea what Sony were thinking. If Sony doesn't put a QHD display on the VII then I will have to consider going with another brand. A real shame.

Same here fam, been a fan since the Z3. Sony being the first company to implement a 4k screen on their flagship many years ago, than all of a sudden making the phone beefy and slapping on a 1080p screen in 2024 is disgraceful indeed. When we know Sony is capable of making It better. I would have been fine with 1440p, but 1080p? Hell naw, its even more disgraceful knowing their is no significant price drop to make up for it either, who they trying to fool.

Lovely device, always adored Sony phones, wish to go back to using them, but there are some points of critique. Their prices are a bit high, they offer a lot but still, for devices with average software support terms, price is big. Which introduce a second critique point, sustainability, minimum 4 years software and OS support and 5 years security updates is a minimum standard. So the price could be justified not only for features it offers, but also long term use. Devices at this price point should be designed to last 5 years with official software and security support. Other than that, spectacular, Sony phones are so great!

I've owned every single version of the Xperia 1 series and seen an incremental improvement in successive models. I was extremely sceptical of the VI until I watched this ! I can now see that Sony has made some effort to improve sound quality which to be fair wasn't bad on the V but wasn't as good as it could have been bearing in mind Sony's hifi skills. So this video has tranformed me from a Xperia VI sceptic into a maybe purchaser.

4k is overkill, but for the most part the phone runs at Full HD+ so for everyday use there probably isnt the biggest change. Im mostly jealous of a variable refresh rate display and if course the new telephoto range.. but as a 1 V owner, i'll skip this generation with these minor (imo) upgrades.

This phone is like buying a Ferrari with the front of the car looking like a Ford Puma. £1300 with a 1080p screen is completely unacceptable. Samsung and apple manage ridiculously bright and bigger screens, higher resolution, bigger phones with less cost than this one. How do sony even hope to compete? They arent even including video pro on release for £1300? I love my Xperia 1IV and was waiting to upgrade to this but ill just wait. I really enjoy your sony content, but to not call this out is evident of your partnership with Sony sending you review devices. It should be feature ready on release with a 2k display. Most of the people complaining about the lack of a 4K screen in the new Xperia 1 VI forget one major point; the 4K Display was only running at its full resolution in very certain and specific scenarios such as watching 4K videos in a supported app. For every other application, browsing the UI, social media and whatnot, the display was running at the same FHD+ resolution that the new 1 VI runs at.

@@OERYV good analogy, but not quite accurate. With a sports car that can go 300km/h you have the liberty to choose when you want to go that speed. With the 4k screen you didn't have a say about when the resolution was active. A few preset apps were supported. So I don't think your analogy applies.
