The sirens were too damned late! The tornado was already on the ground or close to it. I’m a trained spotter and hobby chaser. I live in northern Illinois, and our people are on the ball. The minute the Weather Service issues a warning based on circulation on radar, our sirens are sounded and remain on.

We lived in Omaha for three years and saw some wild weather, but NOTHING like what the good people of Moore face practically every year. These storms are just incredible.

"Practically every year"....? They have had 2 major tornadoes in the past 23 years. Unlucky, sure, but I wouldn't say they experience stuff like this every year.
@michaelandcolinspop Жыл бұрын
@@evirs Hyperbole? Sure, I'm guilty. My bad. What I do know is that our good friends who live in Moore have had to rebuild twice in the last 12 years and send us tornado footage annually. Granted, not every one is directly through Moore, to your point. Maybe I just miss the Midwestern storms after living on the east coast for the last decade. Whatever...

@@evirs if you look at the damage paths through and around Moore you’ll see there’s been way more than just 2. Even if they weren’t hit by some of them that’s still a real close call. It might not be every year but pretty often they get tornadoes in the area that could flatten a city.
@b-diddy2134 Жыл бұрын
No you right @ M.D. even storm chasers and weathermen and women call Moore it’s own mini tornado alley. And yes it’s been more than 2 big tornadoes that have hit Moore, doesn’t have to be a dead on direct hit, they have had a shit ton of close calls. Apparently close calls don’t count according to some people, only counts if it direct hits them.

@jennifercavaros5175, I’m honestly fascinated with tornadoes. I’m from Australia and whilst we do have them, they are usually water spouts and an EF0/EF1 at best - I could literally write a book of questions for you, especially the fact you live in Moore. How on earth do you guys just solider on and get on with every day “normal life”? If there’s a storm brewing, do you guys immediately assume it’s an EF5 building up or do you guys wait and see if it even transpires into a tornado? You Moore natives are incredible, I cannot praise you guys enough for your resilience 👏🙏

It's really hard to hear the sirens when a strong storm is over your house. They have to make the siren sound screeching and piercing like this so hopefully it cuts through the sounds of the storm. I've been in storms that I could barely just hear the siren that's very close to my house.

@I'm Out people wouldn’t know it’s a warned system until the sirens go off. The sirens are meant to warn you that threat is still persisting in the warned area. After the threat passes, the city will stop activating the sirens and begin rescue operations.

But the huge tornado came within 1/2 mile of her...most of the traffic was trying to get away from it. Why didn't she go after it?? Because not everyone in Oklahoma is a storm chaser...contrary to belief apparently. I would have been scared as I'm sure she was...no need to get into a vehicle with it that close. You are better off to stay where you are.

+Jon Jukes A historical event in hindsight. Unless you know for sure you can get away from it in time, it is better to stay off of the roads...most people aren't trained storm spotters or know exactly what they are looking at in the sky and what it is doing. +Jon Jukes agree with mda037, if you can't even aim your camera at the tornado while in your own yard, you certainly should not be out in a vehicle chasing after it. For the majority of this video, she wasn't even looking at the actual tornado! If you go chasing these things, without knowing what you are looking at, you put not only yourself in danger, but a whole lot of other people as well.
