May 2023 Redsea reefer 425xl update and seam failure.

Man, as someone who owns two RS tanks, the increasingly frequent seam failures is really getting unnerving.

my LFS has several running with no issues. Seems to be hit or miss. Go on reef2reef and plenty redsea owners are happy. Try not to lose sleep and hope for the best. Or better yet, upgrade to a bigger eurobraced tank like me.

I live in fear daily. O first heard about all the red sea tank failures last weekend. It's definitely ruined my weekend an this entire week for me. I don't have the big tank like the ones I've seen fail but I have the RS 300XL I've heard about them failing too. I need to just replace it. It's driving me crazy. I have thousands of dollars in sps colonys to loose

I feel your pain. Reason I ordered my IM 200 EXT was this fear and it failed a few weeks before the new tank arrived. Consider setting up a cheap garage tank just in case and get a bigger eurobraced tank if you can. @@marcosherrera675

Wow. Great rescue job. You seem to have taken a very calm and measured approach to saving all your livestock. Those garage tanks really helped you out. Love your resourcefulness here. If you don't mind me asking, how old was your tank and did you purchase it brand new. Subscribed 👍

It was about 3 years old. Guy before me had it for one year. Not sure how he took care of the seams. It failed back right where I didn't clean so who knows. I have seen the newer redsea 425 with armored seams and they look to be better built.

It seems like it’s mostly the larger Red Sea tanks that are failing…? I just got my Red Sea 170 reefer set up and just now learning about these problems 😢

I really only hear about the larger tanks. To red sea's credit they did add armor seems to the newer tanks. I will never own a rimless tank again though.

My man, how are you able to setup such successful tanks, what is your formula? And is this water from a larger system or is it like individual water changes ? Thanks

Thx. I use reef2reef.com and BRS videos mostly. My tanks really took off between the 2-3 year mark. Hold the big 3 steady (alk/ca/mag) with some trace (I use tropic marin A/K in the BRS two part). Then it's trial and error and lots of patience. I do water changes every 1-2 months. I use redsea coral pro salt.

Oh man… oh man…. So sorry to hear of your tank leak. 😮 Thankfully you had a nice back up setup in the garage. You must have lots of experience of being a Reefer 👍👍. So you think Innovative Marine Tanks are better than Red Sea products? Good luck 👍

Thanks. I was lucky I had setup an extra tank recently. I think redsea can be good but I am sticking with eurobraced tanks from now on.

I’m sure there’s plenty of RS owners who haven’t had problems but the owners who have had seam failures just seem too many… which is why I ended up with a 2nd hand Waterbox frag 105🤞. Keep wondering if it’s the silicone they use to build these tanks.

I don’t like 2nd hand tanks because you don’t know what the previous owner put it through, maybe they didn’t level the tank properly

That's why I always recommend people get a second tank because you're certainly regret it later if you don't

I agree. The 2nd tank is great for fish issues as well. It has saved me many times.

Deleting my previous comment. The new Red Sea G2 has armored seams. I have one currently. There would be no way you could damage those even with a scraper. The only caveat would be the back seam where yours failed as those are not armored on the back sides. That baffles me as to why those weren't armored as well. I bought the 5 year warranty, but let's be honest. A new tank cost is 2k to 6k depending on size. A home with hardwood floors and the damage that amount of water will cause is unspeakable. These videos cause me to lose sleep lol.... Good luck with your innovative marine.

I've seen the G2 at my LFS. not only are they armored I feel the seams are also larger and thus safer. Lots of happy redsea owners out there. The redsea tanks at my LFS are doing great after years. reef on

I have seen issues with the redsea at times. Plenty of redsea owners with no issues. Hit or miss.

Do you think it’ll be worth running sealant on a used tank over the top of the original sealant? I’ve got a second hand redsea 525xl which I’m planning on setting up next month/ a few weeks time? Do you think it’ll make a difference euro bracing the tank too?

I would add euro bracing for sure. As far as the sealant I am not sure. I would ask an expert but if it could help then I would.

i have two 5 gallon top fin petsmart brand pico reefs not much luck with corals as its basically a tidepool with evaporation swings but a garden of macros, pods, scuds, and one tiny clown in each no leaks but upgrading soon "from pico to nano" 😅 hope everything gets squared away on your end maybe do a bunch of small 30 gal that all match & do species-only setups i loved my seahorse only tank

Honestly, the newer G2 are a lot different. I will never buy a rimless tank again but I looked at the redsea s1000 long and hard before I settled on the innovative marine.

There are many people who have purchased used red sea tanks that failed later. These tanks don't seem to be able to handle being moved around. I baught mine new. Let's see how long it lasts. I check my seams every day for signs of failure. I live In fear daily.
