May and June - Some Trees and Shrubs

Fed up with being stuck at home, other than to go to the supermarket as that takes less that two hours, I took my camera into the garden one fine day in May and again on the 2nd June when some plants that flower before the summer garden flowers take over were looking lovely. Two small trees were in flower to the end of May and some shrubs are in full flower now until later in June.They looked beautiful one morning last week as the sunlight shone on their plum red leaves. The numerous birds you can hear are mostly Tree Sparrows chirping in the shrubs in the field opposite our front garden. I hope you like my video and I have named the trees and shrubs just in case you fancy buying one for your garden.

Hi Dee. Yes, you do have wonderful big trees that I love and open spaces not forgetting all those beautiful birds and animals 🦘🦘that run wild 👍 I can't tell you how many times, when the garden needs attention, I have said to my hubby, " If we lived in Australia we wouldn't need a garden!" ☹ However, as we get older I am thankful our garden is not very big as we have lots of a miserable, cold, damp days over here and no matter how much I enjoy the garden, I would rather stay inside, nice and warm than go out 🙄 We have had a very odd year to date. March was not cold and windy as it usually is but calm and quite mild. Then April arrived with no "April showers" but lovely warm sunny days and by May and into early June I have never seen our small trees and shrubs flower so well in all the years we have had them🌸 😊As you know, we got pay back in Summer with three months of very hot, humid weather, day and night for three months 😓 with no rain. We never water our lawns in summer so they were left and turned to the colour of straw and I was sick of trying to keep the summer bedding plants alive by watering every evening! Now, I am pleased to say, this last two weeks we have had some rain but not enough yet to fill our reservoirs but our lawns have turned green again 👍and the bedding plants are looking much better🌼🌸🌻 I think that even our small birds were fed up with our summer but they still carried on emptying the feeders every day!! ​@ Hi Julie, It is lovely to have a natural Native garden but i can't wait to add my little touch to it.. More (low maintainance​😆plant & forget 😆​ ) trees & flowers for the birds.. In doors is best on those days, I agree.. I think it has been an odd year every where and I think it's only going to keep happening.. Our Winter was quite mild and wetter than normal.. A lot of the birds that leave for Winter, didn't and I had late Spring and Summer birds turn up.. It made for interesting times though.. As I hadn't heard their off-season calls before and I thought I had new visitors I was running outside every 5 minutes😆 thinking, yay, I might reach 100 species (not to be yet).. It was great to hear these calls .. As Spring begins here the birds are singing and starting to build nests.. Glad to hear you had a little rain, hope there's more to come.. They say we are going to have a wet Spring and early Summer.. Can't wait to see your Autumn colours.. Another beautiful time of year.. I will and you too my friend..🙏..💘🐥🐥💘..

Thank you for viewing Peter. I do like these Physocarpus shrubs, especially "Lady in Red" and they have been full of blossom this year and lovely coloured leaves all summer. They still have a lot of blossom now and when it slowly fades they form very tiny berries so it never looks untidy like some plant can look. I think it is not at all a fussy shrub to grow. I also like this music and I do play it on the piano as I have a few music books arranged by John Kember for the piano with nice "easy listening music" like this. Have a happy week. It has been a lovely spring for our trees and shrubs this year Brenda. I was surprised how well they flowered as the whole of May was much cooler than usual but they seemed to like it. Very peaceful to walk around like Fountains Abbey, quiet near where I live. It was destroyed almost at the same time in the 16th century as were many others in the UK. The red leaved Physocarpus shrubs are a favourite of mine and I wish I had come across them many years ago as they are not fussy and grow well in our odd climate. Their foliage gives lovey colour from May to late Autumn and no thorns either! The days are much warmer here now so I have, at last, managed to get some summer bedding plants in the back borders. Thank you Linda. It was lovely to see such a lot of blossom on those trees and shrubs this May and the beginning of June. I also love Lilac but just wish it lasted longer as the perfume is wonderful. I am going through consultations and operations for my eyes this year, as the left one is causing some concern so I cannot spend as much time on the computer. I took the Laburnum and Lilac before my left eye was operated on and the other shrubs last week as they looked lovely when the buds opened. I say “fed up” because I have not much patience at all Until my right eye is operated on in about 10 day I have to stay on three different drops, four times a day, one of which has to be kept in a fridge, so a day out is hard to fit in. Then the drops will no doubt continue for my right eye for another month. I have been worried about my left eye for a while when I found could not use it with the camera as I always look through the eye piece with that eye. With the pandemic I could not even get to see any doctor so I resorted to a private consultation with an ophthalmologist back in March. After that consultation he sent me for a lot of various tests on left eye as he says the optic nerve is damaged. That was a big shock as I thought it would be just cataracts that were the problem having been told numerous times that I would need them seeing some time soon. Even the ophthalmologist is concerned on how the optic nerve is so damaged. One thing known is that it might have caused optic nerve damage is me being laid on my front for about three hours or more when I had my lower back op. three years ago. I will have to see what comes of that. Bad news that the optic nerve will not get better but since the cataract op. on that eye, the part I can see with is much clearer. I am hoping the right eye op. will help me see clearer when using both eyes in normal daily life but I will have to use my right eye when using my camera. I am on a strict time table with three different eye drop to take four times a day! In 10 days I get the other eye Op. so back on another lot of drops. When I found it wasn't a fussy shrub, plus no thorns either, I got some" Lady in Red" with their paler plumb coloured foliage for other parts of our garden. Have a pleasant evening. Also it is not at all fussy shrub as it survives our winters well. I am not getting much gardening done just now as I have just had my second eye Op. so have had to limited my time on the computer these last few weeks. Hi Julie. Is the eye surgery for cataracts. I will also be having cataract sorted on my right eye as it has come on because of the Operation I had in November 2020 for detached Retina, what a year that was. You'll have to tell me about the procedure once you are ok again and have it all behind you. Hopefully you will be able to get away before end of summer, I'm sure you will, especilly now virtually everything is sort of back to normal, I say normal but there's been a lot of changes since the pandemic. anyhow stay well and best wishes to you. ​@@geoffdeanthemeparks Hello Geoff. Yes, I have known that I had cataract getting worse for a few years now and on my last eye test they gave me the impression they could wait a little longer. However I had a spinal stenosis operation on my lower back in 2019 that was quite serious as I had no choice other than to have the surgery within a few weeks or end up with more serious problems. That went well but left me with some balance problems but free of pain and that is wonderful. However within a few months I noticed I could not use my left eye with my camera as I like to use the through the lens viewer. I didn't worry at first and with Covid going around I kept putting it to the back of my mind until I really felt something was not right. As you know getting an appointment this last two years has been awful so I decided to have a private consultation. I had lots of eye tests only to be told, yes, you do need cataract surgery on both eyes but the optic nerve is damaged in your left eye and will not recover. It was a shock, I can tell you, as I never expected that. The ophthalmologist said the cataract surgery would give me better vision in both eyes but not all my left eye. He is treating me for glaucoma to stop my left eye getting worse. Because there is no one in my family that has this problem the ophthalmologist is going to look into the back operation I had, as I was laid on my front for around 3 hours and it is known that damage to an optic nerve can happen in a very few people due to pressure while laid face down for a good length of time. I might know if that is what has happened to my left eye but I doubt anything can be done now. Having said all that, I do hope you have fully recovered from the detached Retina operation and feeling OK. It must have been very worrying for you to have that happen. However, I can tell you that the cataract operation on my left eye went OK. I opted for a local anaesthetic which was just a lot of eye drops. After waiting a time for them to work I went into the operating theatre and laid almost flat on my back then they covered my face with some sort of mask with just a gap for the surgery. I can assure you that I didn't feel a thing and not at all what I thought it would be like. I went home straight away and my eye took two to three days to clear and then everything started to look much clearer and brighter colours (other than the cloudy part due to the nerve damage) I was sent home with lots different eye drops, three had to be used four times a day and two twice a day also two of them had to be kept in a fridge so going out for a day was out of the question. I am hoping that with no damage to my right optic nerve I will not get as many different eye drops after the op. Mind you, I will be very happier when Friday is out of the way🙄 I will be getting back to viewing more youtube video soon but I cannot spend ssd much time on the computer to start with. @@chaldon2viewJ84M Roll on Friday after you have the surgery so it's all behind you. I rember the eye drops I had to take, One lot had to be taken twice a day and another lot maybe three times a day after the treatment. Yes, I chose local anaesthetic but only at the last minute as I had scheduled the day around not eating or drinking much sooner, but then speaking to the anaesthetist we agreed with local and the surgeon said he was ok with that. With mine It took over an hour for the whole procedure, but I am told that Cataract surgery is a lot better and more straight forward like you just mentioned. My LKeft eye is good and odly enough the vision has improved over the years, however the right side has got worse with focus. Since the retina had been re-attached I do get a distortion in my right eye, makes things a little smaller, wobbly lines and slightly off level, but the two eyes together work correctly and iron out the vision where I can see three dimensionally still. Where you mentioned about the viewfinder on your camera, I have found that I can actually use the other eye, at first it feels a little odd but it does work and you do get used to it. ​@@geoffdeanthemeparks Hi Geoff. I had the right eye cataract operation two weeks ago and see my ophthalmologist this coming Wednesday, 6th July. All seems to have gone well but the op. still took more than the 20 minutes I was told and it took the same as my left eye, about 30-35 mins. It took about 4 days to clear and now I can see colours much brighter and my distance vision is wonderful. Although I know my left eye will never get rid of the blurred areas due to the nerve damage now with my two eye together I can see perfectly but, as you say, I will have to use my right eye with the camera viewer for good now but I have been getting used to it over the last 18 months. Since this last op. and between eye drops, I have been trying to read a newspaper etc. but no specs I have now are any good! I found one pair that are for my old piano/computer and found they are not too bad for reading a newspapers etc. but for a short time only and I feel I still might need some for the piano and computer but non for driving the car! I was told I would need specs for reading but to wait about 5 weeks after finishing all the eye drops. However the nurse said to first choose some off the shelf at the opticians that I feel are OK for reading and then have an eye test a bit later to make sure if I need prescription glasses for reading. All is beginning to look much better after worrying about my left eye for months. Hello Tine. So kind of you to ask after me. Well, I had my left eye cataract done 5 weeks ago and that went well but unfortunately the optic nerve is damaged and that was why I could not see through the eye piece of my camera when taking videos etc. I already knew I had cataracts that would need doing soon but the damage to the optic nerve was a shock but I have found it may have happened when I had my back operation three years ago. I was on my front, face down for over three hours and that can cause pressure problems, usually in one eye. The Ophthalmologist says the left eye damage can only be treated to stop it from getting worse. My right eye was operated a week ago and has just about cleared this last two days and all seems well and thankfully, no nerve damage. I have had to restrict my time on the computer between using numerous eye drops and it will be nice when I can get out for a day as we have only managed a day out to Tropical World in early April and I really would love to get up to Scotland before summer ends. I still have a couple of videos from last September to put on my channel some time but it would be nice to have some footage to edit as I miss doing that and I have also been told .. no gardening for a while! Our weather has also been very hot, very much like yours from what you say, but we really could do with some rain as we have not even had a shower and the garden needs some. It is very humid and a breeze would be lovely just now. Thank you for viewing my little video.
