May Day in France is called both "Labor Day" and "May Lily Day". It's a very special day for the French, not only because it's a public holiday, but also because of the history behind the two names and the tradition of offering sprigs of lily of the valley to our families and friends.

May Day is a public holiday in France. On that day, we offer a sprig of lily of the valley to our families and friends. This tradition dates back from the Celts, who celebrated the arrival of spring with bouquets of lily of the valley. May Day is the only day in France when individuals have the right to sell flowers without paying taxes.
May 1 is also known as “Labor Day”, which honors the struggles of the movement in favor of workers’ rights.
