To the people saying you took the cat thing too far - at the end of the day, the shelter wasted your time. All that time you were waiting to get that cat, you could have been out looking for another good match. Also, nothing changes unless people make a point an organization did wrong. Like you said, the fact the same issue has happened over a decade shows a major flaw in that shelter that, obviously, had not been addressed until you made a stink. Sometimes a stink is needed!

I went to my shelter to meet a cat named Pearl. Never even saw pearl, cause this sad black cat peeped out at me from a blanket cave. I gave that black cat a few treats, and saw how she felt so comfortable with me even though the attendants were telling me she was shy and not ready for adoption. I used my Speech to sway the shelter to let me adopt her, and my cat and I have been a team ever since.

I definitely don't think you took it too far. I honestly believe the way you handled the whole situation was pure maturity. Like you said, the goal wasn't to take the cat back from the adopted family. The goal was to figure out proper communication and how to resolve the issue. You went above "well I figured it out, and I don't get my cat." You made sure that the staff got proper training, communication improved and will continue to improve because you pushed. Animal shelters are, in a way, a community that is typically low funded and staffed. You weren't rude, and you didn't make a scene. You made a change.

When I heard about this cat drama, I was heartbroken and watched all the updates immediately. I can’t imagine if that happened to any of the cats my family has adopted. Especially if you have more cats, it becomes more difficult to vibe check cats at the shelter and contemplating if they’d do well in other the others. Genuinely suspicious if it was the foster family that cancelled the hold because they couldn’t bare to give him up. Glad that you can move past this, because I know I wouldn’t be able to.

I'd almost 100% put money on the fact the fosters didn't want to give him up and the staff did them a wee little favor and just casually broke a few laws under the director's nose. It's easy when you're at the top of a business to get caught up in your own work to put your trust in your staff and expect them to run the business in a positive and professional way in your stead only to find out that the exact opposite has been happening. Hopefully things have improved significantly since then.

with the cat situation i can relate to the 'knowing' what cat is for you - the first cat my boyfriend and i adopted was not planned whatsoever, we had gone into the shelter with the idea we'd get a kitten... but we ended up with an older cat that had been in a hoarding situation. he is very unique personality wise and definitely fits us perfectly. Since then weve adopted 2 others , and they all get along great :)

So many people will only complain to get their own issue rectified and don’t care about actually making a change. To not push for the immediate outcome you wanted (I.e get that cat) but push for the shelter to change their processes is so selfless and commendable of you. Clearly these ppl that said you took it “too far” do not understand a genuine animal connection. Having an animal that you connect with quickly is such a special feeling and it’s not something that always happens. I get it. I saw I pup and knew he was meant for our family. I went back and forth with the person multiple times. It was multiple weeks and it worked out because it was meant to be. I actually really really appreciated watching you handle that situation. As someone that doesn’t speak up for myself as much as I wish I would, it was nice to see you stand up for what you wanted/deserved/the right thing. And I don’t think it was too far AT ALL because the other people were fosters and should be better with loving an animal then releasing it to its forever family. As far as the cat drama, I very much appreciate that you pushed for meaningful change. Errors like what you encountered negatively impact the chances of adoption for these animals. It’s frustrating, at least from my experience, that poor customer service management seems to be a common issue with a lot of pet adoption agencies.

I add garlic and/or smoked paprika on my roasted carrots, they're so good. I'm sorry about the turmoil with the shelter. Good for you for following up on the issue and hopefully being a catalyst for change at the shelter. Editing to add that Connie sounded legitimately perturbed and invested in fixing the system. It's just difficult, especially when a lot of the staff is volunteer.

Don't know for sure if this applies to this cat situation but several years ago I really felt moved to adopt a tripod small dog. I went through rescues and finally found one that seemed a great match, fell in love, my son and I both were attached and loving getting the videos. She'd just had her leg amputated and the fosters were only supposed to keep her for the recovery. Well...shocker....they refused to give her up and she became a foster failure. Something about the sheer tenacity and resilience of tripods actually increases the likelihood of foster failure. I went to adopt another tripod and same thing happened. After that, my son and I were so sick of having our hearts broken. It honestly still stings a bit to this day as we'd been sent weekly video updates of their recovery and seeing one of them, particularly, zipping up and down stairs on three legs a week or two post-surgery, as if it wasn't even registering the difference/setback, was so incredible. It could be that they just didn't want to tell you this was a foster failure. No one usually spends the time or money to argue or litigate in situations like these, so they usually just get away with it. On the upside, hopefully these babies have really wonderful lives since they are obviously so loved and wanted. P.S. Finally settled on a regular rescue and she's been with us (and our other small dog she became bonded with) for almost 5 years now. We adore her and couldn't imagine it any other way now. :)

You are right about the right cat. I love orange tabby kitties. When the first one passed away, it took me 5 years to find the second one. With each one, it was love at first sight and I knew. But it took the time that it took.

Congratulations Olivia! The success and luck candle is absolutely working like you said for change but also I believe that "something" was stopping you from adopting that other cat. That other cat you wanted was not the right match for Bane! You know better than me that you will KNOW when the best match for your cat will be found! That is what I believe with Magick. You may not always get what you originally planned for because that one thing was not meant to be but something better will come along soon that will bring the best match companion cat for Bane. I’m so incredibly sorry that happened to you. That is so frustrating they seem to just be so nonchalant about it. I hope that they do in fact change the way they handle situations like this in the future. Idk how that shelter does things, but Adams County shelter used to have a large room for the adult cats where you could go in and actually socialize with them. I wish you (and Bane) well on your search for a new family member! He is such a sweet boy. I was sad to have missed out on the picnic. Next time! Looks like you all had a grand time.

I like your view on selecting an animal. My Hana (shih-tzu) chose me. I sat on the floor among her litter mates and she just crawled into my lap! I think it has to be that way. I had this happen twice, two different shelters, years apart, for both a dog and a cat. For the pup we had everything done, home visit had been in contact for weeks. Then the shelter called and apologized that theu accidently adopted the pup to someone else. For our cat, that shelter after talking to them and meeting the cat, we were ghosted and the cat was taken off their website. I just hope nothing happened to the poor kitten!

When I obtain a pet, I let them choose me 😊 we went to a Kitty Cafe near where I live. We interacted with the Cats in a separate room. We had refreshments and were able to buy cat items to help support the Cats. I had fun playing with them ,but none chose me. Maybe next time 😊🐈🐈‍⬛

Dude, you totally did the right thing by escalating the issue with the shelter. Because, yeah, nothing was going to change otherwise. Many of the people you talked to at first may not have even brought it up to the higher ups at all, and if they did they weren't getting your full story. The people in charge can't make a change if they're not aware that something is wrong. It's difficult to be that person to stir shit up because it's so frowned upon, but in this case especially it was necessary! And the fact that their end seemed to say that YOU called to cancel the hold?? Unacceptable! I know you'll find the right cat for you and Bane, and it will all work out for the best 💜

It's true that there are a lot of cats in the world. There are also a lot of people in the world, but you can't exchange one for another. Well, my ex could, but he was a narcissist. Cats have individual personalities, individual souls. They aren't a mass-produced product, like a "thing." I do animal rescue and, no matter how full my house is, I know when someone is missing. Good on you holding the shelter accountable. I personally wouldn't adopt from them in the future until they show they've changed their operations and policies for the better, as well as the training. It was highly unprofessional of them to not inform you of the cat's wellbeing and the amputation!

I've been involved in several cat adoptions, and what you're doing is what needs to be done. Period. The shelter screwed up royally and needed to fix their f*k-up, and needed someone to push them to do it. They're not just messing with people's emotions, they're messing with people's money... and the laws. You didn't go "extra" on this, you did what needed doing. :-) Also, that smile when you picked up Bane says it all. And now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy some carrots...

In a 48 hr time period we had 2 litters of baby kittens found in the road literally in front of our house and my daughter has a cat that adopted her a few months ago and she had 6 beautiful babies apparently rite up against the side of our house. My daughter has worked with Florida wildlife quite a few times since she was a teen, she's 24 now, and having HURT animals find THEIR way to our front door and she's fostered a few rats, kittens and critter's , so she's on first name bases with the local no kill facilities. It's a shame U cldnt look at the 9 babies between BOTH litters she had!! Very nice of you to do those meetups . how you dealt with the cat thing is how I deal with things in my life I dont do the I deserve this at all cost like for instance wit h what you did with the cat I would see as as long as the cat have a good home ( becasue its about the cat more then anything) plus trying to point out in a positive way what the places issues are and hopefully to help in some way so that they dont keep doing the same thing to other people and animals those are the lessons in life for the self and others and again it sucks but usually when things happen there is a reason and something that is supposed to happen comes in be it a lesson or in your case a cat , in any case something will fill that place I am just not sure what that is at this time but the room has to be there for it to fit in and again like I sort of mentioned I think that you probably where never going to get that cat but you were directed there to help others get that cat plus help like you said " point out any flaws" in the way they do things paths in life are strange sometime but if you be like water ( I know sound strange) the path always goes to where it is supposed to go what what needs to be done usually will get done the way they are supposed to the trick is on how to handle it and not letting ego or some negative thing guide you when your in those situations it took me 30 years to see things then another 20 years to understand how to follow the right path even now 10 years later it still is tricky ;) also i know it sound all mumbo jumbo but his has been my experience in my life so far.

(heavy speculation coming) I don't know if I'm the only one who thought this, but when I first heard about your cat drama I just immediately sensed that it was purposeful and stemmed from the foster parents not wanting to give up the cat. It just makes sense that foster parents working for a shelter would have relationships with employees/volunteers there and I find it VERY VERY suspicious that they wouldn't be willing to reverse the adoption due to (supposedly) a simple admin mistake. So, you're better than me Olivia for not putting the foster parents on blast because your goal as a foster parent should be to rehome that animal to the best person/family; and I understand foster "fails" happen, but they usually only happens when a pet has been unsuccessful in finding a home for a long time and/or they have special needs that potential adopters aren't able to accommodate. So nah, that's my gut feeling about the situation and it's straight up gross, grimy behavior and I think you're right about this being redirection. Hopefully this situation was a good enough wake up call to the shelter and foster parents. I also find it funny that some people were annoyed for how hard you went, cause you're better than me in that sense -- I would've gone in even harder LOL

~I found my current cat monster while driving home from my last day at a temp job in 2020. I saw a little black blob in the middle of the road and as I passed it, I realized it had ears. I instantly knew it was for me. I jumped out and ran back to find a tiny black kitten who thought she could scare me away if she spit hard enough. I scooped her up in my jacket and brought her home. In the last three years she has grown up into an absolute monster (I regularly say she's possessed XD) but she's my monster and I love her to death. The universe will give you the right cat at the right time

About the cat: a couple of days ago a friend of mine found a kitten who had been yeeted (literally) into his garden by someone who knows he has many pets - it happens frequently here, people don't want to spay their cats because it's "cruel" and expensive, but think that abandoning their kittens in random houses who have pets is better - and, even though he didn't want another cat, I think he's already adopted them (the kitten, IDK the gender). I don't get how people can treat pets like this, but I guess it was meant to be like this and you'll find the perfect companion for sweet Bane, or maybe he'll find one for you.

Ok- hear me out in regards to the cat situation. When you go to adopt an animal at most shelters there is paperwork, you and your sitiuation are evaluated- there are plenty of hoops to jump through in order to adopt. I'm not saying that is wrong, but they have high expectations of their potential adopters, so that should go in both directions. If adopting is to be seen as a serious responsibility and commitment, then that needs to be modeled on the shelter's side as well. Olivia, I think you did a beautiful job at standing your ground while being calm and polite, yet firm. I hope the perfect cat for you finds it's way into your life very soon.

I'm sorry it didn't work out with your kitty. It's not uncommon (at least in my country) for shelter employees to favor the foster parents since they work closely together and get to know each other, over the adopter who they just met. Which is understandable as they want the cat to be with someone they know will take care of it, but it's also not ok to the adopter. So it's a good thing you pressed on and not let them get away with that behavior, which hopefully, will bring them back down to earth.I hope you'll find your kitty soon, and thank you for bringing us on this journey

Hey so I have a shade "problem" He or it i should say has been with me for as long as i remember. I had to lock him away for a while or get a more skilled witch to do it which locked some memories. And he or it is back and i wanna know how to deal with it by myself or find a way.

Oh yummy I have never tried roasted carrots! I definitely will now thank you! Sorry for saying maybe try another shelter I feel bad now! I just hope it doesn’t happen again and I hope you changed it for others as well so something like that doesn’t happen again! And with my animals I was thinking about getting another dog after loosing my first in a house fire and one of my cousins had to move fast and couldn’t have a dog so I took her dog Maverick in and he was under 1 year old (now 5)! About 5-6 months later my niece had to get rid of one of her dogs because she had too many so I took her dog Toby in he was 1 1/2. Come to find out Maverick and Toby were from the same liter from a breeder (but was “accident” left their in heat female outside and neighbors dog dug under the fence!) they’re Great Dane/ Mastiff(mom) and Rhodesian Ridgeback/ some sort of Pitbull(dad). And kind of same with my cats my friend went to fix her cat and she was pregnant so I took 2! Same age as my dogs now 5! Sorry for the book lol but wanted to share. I believe everything happens for a reason good or bad! Love the Vlog have a great day!!!

I've been giving antibiotics to the most perfect little orange cat I named Marmalade. The vet says to watch him but she thinks the eye abcess is healed. He's ready for a furever home. I'm in Oklahoma if your interested.

I mean, if you hadn't gone through all that to get to the director and impress upon her the need for change, then likely it would just keep happening to people. sure, you probably wouldn't have had to deal with it again, but it's just out there happening to other people. and in the end that creates a bad reputation for the shelter and that hurts the animals. so good job being extra! sometimes we need people willing to put themselves out there for the greater good.

Maybe it’s fate that it happened the way it did .. maybe it was needed that this happened to you and this cat to help change the way the shelter works because there’s another cat out there waiting to be rescued and brought to you it’s sad the other cat won’t be the one but perhaps he was supposed to go to that foster family for a reason and now the “hopeful” changes will be made a lot of animals will end up in the right place like you said “what you want or think you want isn’t always what you need “.. the universe works in mysterious ways 😂

I think it's pretty clear that animal shelter did you dirty. Someone cancelled your hold so their friends, the foster parents, could keep the cat. Private foster/rescue groups can be really weird. No mere human is good enough for their precious, precious animals. They should have refunded you Bane's adoption. Regarding Bane, he seems quite happy. Some cats are loners. I think there's no hurry.

The click is totally a thing. All of my animal companions have clicked with me HARD. On the flip side, my old roommate had a cat. We did NOT click, to the point I was starting to think I was going from a cat person to an 'i hate cats' kind of person. Bottom line: You need the click.
