Hello Friends, May is a very exciting month because there is no much going on in the garden. May is when all of the heat loving crops are transplanted out and all of the other plants ae starting to really take off.
I wanted to share what I have going on in my garden and share any updates on any experiments I have going on in the garden. Garden tours are also really fun because it is a good time to walk the garden without a specific task and really take in all of the work and beauty. Also, May is when a lot of the early greens start getting large enough to harvest and kick off a summer full of garden bounty.
I hope you enjoy the Garden Tour and I would love to hear updates on your gardens- for me and the community.
Happy Gardening!!!

I love seeing the bumble bees- they are my favorite. And you are right- especially with this cooler weather we have been having. Thanks for watching.

I'm trying grape starts for the first time...a couple leaves showing so fingers crossed. My main bed is currently peas, which hopefully finish around the time I need to plant tomato starts. Last year I did fava beans and garlic before tomatoes, and the fava and garlic finished too late for tomatoes, so we'll see if peas are a better match (in Seattle, now zone 9A).

I really really really want to try grapes. I think it is the next thing on my list. I always see wine grapes but I am looking for a good eating or juicing grape. Peas should be good- mine are just starting to put on flowers and I will have snow peas soon- yum. Wow, I didn’t realize Seattle moved up a zone, that is interesting.

Cattle panels have gone up 12$ in last 3 years. But what I do is go to home Depot. I find the concrete area. They have the rusted ones. I get those. Their cheaper and I just clean those up good and there ya go. The rusted ones are 20$. Not bad. Their 8ft each. I do same put them together. I love cattle panels. Anyway good luck. And I'm new to your chanel. I love your big garden.

I have used the concrete mesh for tomato cages and love it. I just had a HUGE branch fall from my cottonwood and took out one of the trellises- I was so bummed but thankful nothing else was damaged.

Thanks for the tour! I was wondering how you keep slugs at bay? Being so wet here in Washington, they are the bane of my existence! Also, I would love a video on your heating and cooling system for your hot house! My husband just finished building mine and I'm looking for set-up ideas 😊

Two years ago here in Washington, I had HUNDREDS of slugs decimate my dahlias, carrots, radishes, lettuce, etc. They were EVERYWHERE, even all over my tomato plants. I tried everything (beer traps, hand picking, spiky wire) the only thing that worked was Garden Safe Slug & Snail Bait. I know some people are iffy on using it but they were ruining all my food so I always use that now! 🚫🐌 Good luck in whatever you decide to try!

Absolutely, I know a lot of people wonder how I have the long white shanks in my leeks. It also insulates them because I leave many in the garden and harvest fall/summer.

Interestingly enough, this year I was on top of planting snap and shelling peas much earlier than I normally had in the past. It was around the February 11th. Ground temp was 50 degrees so I thought they would do ok. Whoa, they really did not grow much until the warmer weather showed up about a 3 weeks ago. Is that your experience as well?

Where did you get the luffa seeds? That’s something I’ve wanted to grow too. I got my tomatoes in the ground Monday in mount Vernon, going for a bigger mix and some dwarf varieties this year. It was good to see your broccoli because I feel like mine are tiny rn even though they’ve been in the grain for awhile.my berries are all flowering nicely except my honey berries for some reason. Hoping I might get some huckleberries from my trees this year but they’re young. Fingers crossed for apples, pears, and cherries too the trees have been in the ground for 2 years now.

I got my luffa seeds from a friend- but I think she got them from MIgardener or another seed house. Growing luffa has been on my list now for awhile. I need to finish one more bed and I will get my tomatoes in. The broccoli likes to take off after a nice rain- like several days of rain. I am hoping this rainy week will inspire them. 😂 Fingers crossed for the tree fruits- I am right there with you with my young trees.

@@littlerootsranch I actually found some luffa starts at christiansons nursery in mount Vernon right after posting this, they are in the bed and doing okay, though I need it to warm up a little. Cherries starting to turn pink, fingers crossed. Good to know about the broccoli. It rained alllll day here yesterday

@@littlerootsranch they were in the greenhouse with all the other veggie starts, the tomatoes, peppers, squashes, etc, sorry unsure what greenhouse number, but they were all the way at the end on the left side passed the pumpkins. There were not a ton of them when I got mine so they may be sold out.

Yes, and I really love it. My favorite thing is the self venting roof- it is so nice to not have to run out there all the time. I use it for starts in the spring and I plan to have some potted peppers in there during the summer that I am going to try to overwinter. 🤞
