At least get an NIV…the NLT adds so many words to scripture, which scripture expressly forbids in both old & new testaments…. but the best option would be to get a KJV and then pray and ask God to help you understand as you read, you will be amazed. God bless.

This Bible is a work of art. The craftsmanship and artistry are second to none. I love the NLT. It has some great translations of familiar passages that truly illuminate the meaning. (Matthew 5:3 comes to mind.). When it goes off the rails, it does so in spectacular fashion. (Revelation 3:14 as an example.). Can’t wait to get mine in mid-February with the rest of the plebes.

@ There is an alternative; learn Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. All translations from one language into another must use words in the receptor language that make the sentence intelligible. That, of necessity, means adding words.

@@Matthew-307 I am a KJV almost exclusive guy but even the KJV adds words. Granted they do it very tactfully by italicizing them - letting the reader know when they added words - which is one of the better features of the KJV in my mind. It even adds the word "from" in Rev 22:19. All that to say, yes there are times the NLT does at times add a bit too much by doing some of the interpreting for you. However, it is not a charge that the Translations of old KJV or Geneva or Tyndale Bible exempt from.

I so nearly bought this, but unfortunately when I went to pay, over £45 pounds sterling tax was added to the price and with that and the postage to the UK (which I was happy to pay) just made it that little bit too prohibitive in price. 😢. Lovely to see your review though and what I have missed! This was the translation that brought me to God.

I have the NLT Catholic readers edition hardcover sewn spine. Only NLT with APOCRYPHA I found. Im not Catholic, praying to Mary or nothing, but i do like it. Oh the sonrise is awesome, need apocrypha imo.❤ God bless everyone, p.s. give away lol jk.

I have. I have a Cambridge Topaz KJV. I want to enjoy it but I have such a difficult time with many of the words.

My questions is: with a book as massive as the Bible, what’s the use of a few sheets of lined note paper? 😅 I’d rather have journals that I can fill up and replace than a few sheets of paper in the back of a Bible, personally.
