I'm surprised that in all these years I haven't had a video from "May Meadow". Last weekend allowed me to correct this misunderstanding - I picked up my place, responsible for perseverance, from the couch and came for one of the days. All three days passed through an area that wouldn't become boring for another ten-ish years due to its size, diversity and richness. For myself, I decided to just have fun and run at the pace that was most comfortable for me (because I can’t go faster due to my physical unpreparedness, for which I have no excuse).
Problems at the distance began immediately: the azimuth was not maintained at all, I was constantly being carried away somewhere. Fortunately, I did not blindly rely on the azimuth and corrected myself at different points, however, this helped as long as I understood the situation. Otherwise, I was wasting my time. Many things remained unclear to me, the map is incredibly detailed, it’s pleasantly amazing, but its accuracy seemed to me (and not only me) not the best. The funniest loss of time happened at the 13th CP. The leg crosses an insurmountable trench, but for some unknown reason (actually an unknown one - a lazy analysis of the leg) my eyes decided not to send information about this to my brain, and I realized everything only when I stood in front of this trench. I just stood and looked at it, thinking whether to take a risk or run around and realized my complete stupidity. Eventually, I decided that I still need my legs, and ran around. In the video, the trench does not look so scary, but in fact, falling into it is life-threatening.
Separately, it is worth noting the setting of the CP's. They were hidden incredibly well. How cool it is to look at the hill next to which there is a CP, and not see the control point until you are almost leaning against it. Naturally, being a participant, I was indignant. But in fact it became a good part of the distance. Middle at its finest.
As a result, that day I became 4th out of 12. Neither good nor bad. My orienteering could have been better.
And yes, the camera again didn’t make it to the end.
