Wow, I can trash two master tools having this features directly in maya.. first of all the epic DPK blendshape manager, and then minor procedures like the great abSymMesh. Thanks Autodesk for these things and Steven for this well done demostration! Nice character too.. Cheers!

Great video. I have a question. Is there a way to create an inbetween target for combination targets, for example if you have two shapes combined and you want to adjust a certain point in the blend? I am able to create an inbetween but am unable to edit it..

How do you avoid the base mesh from being edited? I've tried to use the Shape Editor, but it keeps affecting the mesh at weight 0 even when I've set the Weight/Driver at 1.

Nice tut, but how to begin from scratch without blendshapes? there is no edit button on the create blendshape to sculpt. and add target is greyed out ofcourse.. If i begin sculpting on a empty one i would loose my original right? THNX

Steven,please make tutorial how to resolve that problem with locked skin joints with that text // Warning: Specified weight could not be set due to locked influences. // some vertex on locked joints start picking up, it always happened when i paint and touch vertex on locked around, happened only if many joints locked around, if there just a few all works fine, i'm starting be very sad than what happened,thanks.

Great tip! Thanks! Can you tell how the character's beard was created? When you select the face the beard geometry does not show with a highlighted topology wireframe! But when the blendshape is done it follows!

i tried animating with this . . . i dont see the animation key on the time slider also in the graph editor. they said you have to click the blend shape deformer in the shape editor or the blend shape node but still when i select it there is no animation key on the time slider. is it a bug? is it a maya 2016 extension 2 thing. plsssss help plssss

Great additions but & its a big BUT why, in order to create a mirror of eg the left brow, do you have to duplicate it, then flip it?? With the Shapes plugin, its a simple one click procedure "create opposite" - job done

Yeah because the Blend shapes effect the Mesh itself, so you can use this without any sort of rig.

Any way to use the Pose Space Editor in combination with correctional blend shapes? I like to create corrections in Zbrush and Mudbox instead of using Maya's sculpting tools. Also we're using Maya ext2 and the Pose editor doesn't work. When hitting the button Create Pose Interpolator, and then adding correctional poses will create poses with LOCKED weights. Move the joints and the weights retain the same value, which makes the Pose Editor useless for us.

Managed to connect blend shapes using the Advanced Settings and adding connections, but rotating joints blend shape transformations are linear and seem to ignore how the joint has been skinned. I'm finding the Pose Editor frustrating and useless.

Thanks, but that's still using maya's sculpting tools. I'm proposing that you can import correctional geometry from mudbox and zbrush and applying that as a blend shape within the Pose Space Editor. I figured out how to apply blend shapes within the advanced tab in the Pose Space Editor, but the geometry does not deform with the joint movement and you have no control over the falloff. There's a weird offset where the joint lags behind the blend shape. The old school method of using set driven keys with blend shapes still seems to be the best method.

Jim Yeo you should be able to export the posed mesh into zbrush and adjust that and plug that into the blendshape although I haven't really touched the pose editor yet so I don't really know. They might have a script for that on the internet.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's the problem. The pose editor seems to be broken for adding blend shapes. There's no script necessary, you can add the blend shape through the advanced tab in the Pose Editor. I can post a file if anyone wants to see.
