You know what's great about this video? It gets right down to business. There's no flashy titles, there's not too much chit-chat about what the tutorial is about. This tutorial spends just enough time at the beginning to show what it's about, and then gets on with the lesson. Thanks, it was just what I was looking for.

Thank you for the video. I'm a student and I needed a quick tutorial to help animate some homework. I appreciate the shortness and focus on the subject matter. No need for a fancy intro, no explanation of the history of animation; just good and honest information about what people are looking for in a tutorial.

First you have to go the exact frame in timeline where the ball first touches the hand then you have to constraint it (not before not after). And after once you constraint the ball now when you want to detach the ball and want to animate the ball independently then you have to toggle blend parent with 1 or 0, and set the keys in timeline (1= hand is working as a parent. 0= hand is not working as a parent). am writing this because just now i learned this and i had a confusion of when i need to constraint the ball. thats why i am sharing this. thank you

As soon as I change Blend Parent to zero it returns to the original position before the character grabs the object.

Hello, I want to ask. My blend parent doesn't appear, even though I have set the key on the ball object. what should i do? I'm using Maya 2018

Thanks for the video. It really helps, But i just want to know, does the object you parent/contrain have to be to a control point? Or can you do the same thing to one of the joints or bones of the skeletal mesh?

If I unparent my object it flips back to it's initial position. Why does this happen? Your object stays at the position where you unparented it.

In the Attribute Editor > Constraint Attributes > Untick the "Enable Rest Position. I would however say that, depending on the complexity of your animation, this is a bit of an unstable method. It works on the surface but there may be other complications down the line.

just key the the translate and rotation before keying the blend pose back to 0

@@euthanizedoasis859 That's a great workaround, although it'll still glitch out from time to time and you have to play around with the timeline till it works again.

I urgently ask for help, I followed the steps in the video to parent an object to my rigged character, but now the problem is that the animations I made in the scene with that character were lost and I can no longer move their joints, is there any way to solve that ? doenst work. when i switch blend parent to 0 it doesnt let go object. No difference between 0 and 1

So I was hoping you would explain how to create the blend parent attribute. That's the hard part. The animation itself is a completely logical next step.

+TheChaosilator When you add the parent constraint and keyframe in the ball it will show the blend parent attribute in your channel box editor.

U can use Constraint weight as well u dont have to create any attribute for that

I successfully unparented the object but the object isnt able to be animated ... I set the keys but it turn back to its origin 0,0,0. ...what should I do???

I had to key the whole ball (with Blend Parent set to 1) first on the frame where the ball is not supposed to be parented. Then change the Blend Parent to 0 and key only the Blend Parent on the same frame.

Which attribute do you change to zero? Make sure you select the parent constraint and turn the correct object's constraint to zero. If you have more than one object constrained, it's likely that you're turning off the wrong constraint. If you don't want any object to parent the object being picked up, select the constraint and turn all object constraints to zero so it's parented to the world. I hope that wasn't confusing.

hi I have a question please, I parented a locator (small object) into a control curve(big object), now I can't animate the locator (small object) independently, for example, I attached spaceship legs (locator) into a main spaceship through controller now i can't animate the legs, any suggestions, thanks
