Maya Cosmology & the Real 2012: Mary Lou Ridinger at TEDxSanMigueldeAllende

MaryLou Ridinger, an archaeologist who has lived in Guatemala for nearly twenty-five years tackles the absurd misinterpretations of the Mayan 'Long Count" calendar, explains its true meaning of December 21, 2012 in the Mayan context, and suggests that our society could learn important lessons about cyclicality and interconnectedness from the actual beliefs of Mayans.
Mary Lou Ridinger, born in Texas in 1945, first lived in San Miguel Allende in 1958-59. Upon her return in 1970 she attended the University of the Americas for her M.A in archaeology. Her studies included literal "digs" as Mexico City excavated its subway system. Three years later her career started in Guatemala as she was the first archaeologist to discover the source of the lost Maya jade mines. This led to starting a small jade business which ,thirty-eight years later, has been fundamental in restoring a source of Maya cultural heritage to both a nation, and to a people; as well as to its place in Mesoamerican history. During the past 4 years Ridinger has founded the Maya Conservancy and spent much time in developing educational tools to bring back the Maya Calendar knowledge from the 2,000 year old site of Izapa, Chiapas. Still virtually unknown, Izapa is the origin site of the complex Mesoamerican calendar system, including the Dec 21, 2012 date. She has been featured in National Geographic, the Discovery channel, and various magazines. She and her husband's story has been featured in a recent book, The Stone of Kings by Gerard Helferich.

Well done presentation. The one element I believe you missed, which I include in my novel the Curse of Cortes, is the alignment of the 5126 year cycle to the multiple creations embedded within the Polpul Vuh. The Maya did not create the calendar, but inherited the calendar which would have required at least one full observation of the cycle to be as precise as they were on the issues of procession. The cycles of creation (epochs) and calendar duration may be the same. In my view, my premise within the book is that the Maya and the Olmec inherited the knowledge from a much older civilization, possibly pre-Younger Dryas. I know that may be contrary to popular academic opinion, but the current explanation has holes.

Hi! What you’re stating has been talked about I. The Mayan community of the mini cycles occurring within the larger. I think this Dr’s presentation was extremely high level, however the details fall into and corroborate the high level she’s presented. So-agreed with you on the additional details. And yes agreed there was a complete view of the entire 26k cycle and that knowledge has been kept and passed on (thankfully!) for us to be able to discover it in this place and time. An author that is highly respected in our Mayan community is John Major Jenkins. He does a fantastic job of detailing the astronomy and mini cycles you referred to above. It’s been a handy reference and well written with detailed support and visuals from astronomy software that support the presenter above as well. If you haven’t read it already-I can tell you’d enjoy it based on The research you’v gathered above. I always have shared with folks that 12/21/2012 was the exact center point of a 20 year center point (galactically speaking).. I want to go into so much Mayan cosmology detail that would overwhelm them, so I frequently send colleagues here to Listen to this KZbin overview so they can get up to speed and be able to make decisions in there life better informed. 🎉

Oh-on the 5,124 year cycles-yes those have a name for that timeframe as well in Mayan calendrics. The name of the book by John Major Jenkins that shares all of the alignment info and cycles within a larger cycle that you mentioned above is: “Maya Cosmogenis 2012: The True Meaning of the Mayan Calendar End Date” He discuses all of these sites and the horizon alignment of the solstice sun as well as their ‘zero’ start date and the Orion Creation space. So I wouldn’t necessarily say what she spoke of above has ‘holes in the theory’ however I would say that her presentation corroborate with the details shared from the Mayan community, the Astronomical software data, and the archaeologist research performed by others as well. It’s quite exciting. Looking forward to us actually finally being outside of that center point, and taking that first step.A lost has happened from 2019-2022 that has reached a culmination. So 12/21/22 is the solstice sun finally exiting that galactic alignment. What is next? I agree with her it will be an amplified renaissance.

May 5th 2022 AD is the end. They say the Mayan long count is 5200 years or 1,872,000 days but is actually 7200 years or 2,592,000 days. When we subtract the two we have 2000 years or 720,000 days. 72 is the number of completion. They started time over at 5200 years which was the year 0 AD. The last 2000 years they put on a special deceptive calendar to confuse mankind and the times of the end. They claim we run a gregorian calendar but when we do the math of 60 minutes per hour at 24 hours a day we get 1,440 minutes per day, 10,080 minutes per week and at 52 weeks we get 524,160 minutes. The solar cycle is exactly 360 days. With lunar cycles every 30 days exactly. 360 is a complete circle and a complete cycle. At 80 minutes per hour with an 18 hour clock day we also get 1,440 minutes per day, same as the gregorian calendar. But at 5 day weeks we get 7,200 minutes per week, and with a 72 week year we get 518,400 minutes. Take the 524,160 minutes from current time calendar minus the 518,400 minutes from the real solar cycle calendar of 360, exactly, we have 5,760 minutes added every year based on the currently ran calendar, which is 72 hours extra added every year. So 72 hours added every year for 2000 years is 144,000 hours or 8,000 days extra at the real solar cycle of 360 days and 80 minute 18 hour days.. However it is an additional 88 days for the 22 years we are currently about to be in 2022 AD. Which is 8,088 days. When we take 8,088 days and subtract 7200 days ( which is 20 years) we have 888 days left. Then subtract 720 days (which is the 2 years) we have 168 days left. Take 168 days (still on true solar cycle of 18 hour 80 minute days, 5 day week, 72 week year) and multiple by 18 hours to get 3024 hours. Divide by 24 hours (because we need to figure the days on current ran calendar) we get 126 days. Now we also must subtract 24 hours or a day from 1/3 of a year passed from the extra time added. Leaving 125 days. So 125 days from January 1st 2022AD is May 5th, 2022AD......which is also the true year 2000, the true y2k. The true end of the Mayan long count and the world.

"Maya" is a Sanskrit word & the concept of "Maya" has detailed explanation in and originates from Hinduism. I don't understand why some people try to disconnect its Hindu roots, and somehow link it to Abrahamic religions. Yoga, Bindi, Dhyana, Chakras, Karma, Dharma, Moksha, Avatar, etc, are all Sanskrit words and Hindu Dharmic practices. Does it mean you need to be Hindu to practice all of these?
