As somebody who has severe social anxiety and has been at one point in my life been homeless and literally had to learn how to sleep in a public park with people watching me and listening to anything I'm doing, I've learned something super helpful when it comes to dealing with being in a place with people around you... People, especially strangers, are 200% more interested in whatever they are currently doing in their life at the moment than what you may be doing right then. Anybody that does go out of their way to bother you or to judge you at a place like a local park or anywhere in public, even if you're being loud or 'weird', are the kind of people that would bother you regardless of what you're doing right now, and for the most part people in the US try to be considerate of others or at the very least don't go out of their way to bother other people.

I used to have a Fox Terrier, and the wee radge loved fireworks. It all started when he was young and we let him watch lightning and thunder except it was really funny as he thought the thunder came before the lightning, but he soon figured it out. And the bigger and brighter the better. One year we took him to a fireworks display at the local secondary school and I had to carry him because of the crowd. When they saw him, people thought we were wrong to do it and one woman even told me off but as soon as the fireworks started to go off, he wagged his tail so hard his bum started shaking from side to side, and she looked at him in disbelief. He looked so happy and gave my face several big licks. When we got home and he finally fell asleep, we watched as his tail gently wagged a little and he made little yelp and squeak noises as he dreamed about it. That was over 20 years ago and I still remember it.

Look up Albert Ellis, he basically developed the first clinical version of exposure therapy, he called it rational emotive behavioral therapy. Part of social anxiety is letting go of what you “must do”. Called Musterbation. In a social situation the thing that makes you anxious is anticipation, adherence to the rules. You need to break you own rules again and again to finally snap out of it, hence exposure therapy. The most important thing is thinking critically in the moment, to identify the “must do”s

i rarely see anyone talk about this affect of fireworks. fireworks kick my ass dude, im not even a vet, i just have problems with loud noises and PTSD involving firearms (though it affects me much less now). it really seems like the cons of fireworks outweigh the pros at this point, we really should find something better/safer to replace them.

Social anxiety is the worst, for a while my anxiety pretty much was behind every decision I made. I got a job at a grocery store stocking produce. I’m front and center around hundreds of people a day. I realized I’m not scared of social interaction, I’m scared of strangers. I don’t know if I can be my goofy self with them and make jokes or if they are a hardass and I need to act serious. At first it was scary being around people all day, but I got used to it and learned to hate them. The hottest girl can come up to me while I’m working and I don’t care. Genuinely, I’m exhausted, my back hurts. Nothing you can offer me other than cuddles in a back rub would impress me. I damn near hate every customer off rip, I stereotype like dj ghost says. Their goal is to give me a reason not to hate them, and it’s easy as asking me a question. I’ve had 2 older black ladies tell me I’m the kindest most caring person ever just because I helped them with something. I’m mean mugging on the outside but on the inside I’m just a teddy bear lowkey. It works too because nobody bothers me when I’m looking irritated at work, so I get my tasks done faster

In no way shape or form am I advocating for or even slightly approving of any kind of physical confrontation with another person over something is malleable and ultimately unimportant to each of us as?
