Maya - Texture Deformer

Most new features in Maya 2018 I haven't covered so far seem to be performance based and/or specialities like the Bifrost cache or sculpting with a lattice structure. So, today I show you something deeply underestimated, and something leading to Bifrost (and water and foam...): the texture deformer. We'll create waves using an ocean texture and animating its time parameter very effectively with a simple expression.

this deformer act like a real time displacement wich is useful when we need to witness the changes made by a texture of our choice on the surface like a forest ground or ripples or even cracks...sweet tutorial, thank you

Wow this was so simple to set up. I always am amazed at some of the quick tools I can find in MAYA that will help to add depth to my objects. making those wrinkles with sculpting would have taken me a lot longer

i'm afraid i cannot help you with this. probably the texture deformer was not present in maya 2014. why not use the student version of maya 2020, bake the animation and load it into your paid 2014 version?

Hi Uhr, I am new to Maya. How did you call out the handle bars (color in yellow, blue, red) at 1:49 to modify the dimensions of the cube. I believe you might using keyboard short cut call out the handle bars. Thanks!
