I used to live on a dairy farm when I was a kid...we just rented the house on the property...and I loved those big dudes. They would all come meet me at the fence and I would hand feed them all the greenest stuff from my side of the fence where they couldnt reach. They were so gentle, unlike horses and donkeys. They often had my hand full of grass and clover right in their mouths and never once did I get an accidental bite. They all got out one day and were on our front porch looking in our windows and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. They didnt go anywhere, just hung out in front of the house. I like to think they were looking for me lol
@emelie. Жыл бұрын

Did you have an epiphany that time, that we propably shouldn't raise and kill animals for taste pleasure?
@AaronHendu Жыл бұрын
@@096MaxikinG096 nah, took a lot longer than that...maybe another 25 or more years after that, actually. The farmer's daughter saw I liked the cows and asked if I wanted to help with them one day...she took me out in the field, and told me to hit them with a stick to make them go back to the barn...i didnt know what to do so I swatted it soft enough a fly would have shrugged it off and she tried to get me to do it harder (I was 4 yesrs old), and I said I couldnt, so she legit was smashing my buddies with a big stick as hard as she could and I could never look at her the same again. She was a lot older and babysat me often and I told my dad about it and she wasnt around anymore. I spent more time with the cows than any people, my dad neglected me...and that incedent will always be a part of my memory...I am 37 now. It was a small dairy farm where the cows were known to be well cared for and even those animals were abused for no reason. They literally will let you milk them if you are good to them.

@@sundanser ...yes we do? we have an ABUNDANCE of food in most first-world countries... in the usa you can find a walmart or a costco around every corner filled with non-beef food. we raise and kill cows because they taste good, we can get any nutritional benefits from other foods that are just as available as beef, people just don't because beef tastes good

I'll aslo add that a significant amount of "food waste" (at least for me) is a necessity of improper butchering for increasing price (i cut like 10g of fat/ cartilage sometimes bone per chicken breast) Edit I'll also add i have a allowance for beef I eat it once per Three months.

14:25 it is also a good option to buy beef from local farmers you know or locally operated butcher shops if either option exists in your area. growing up, my family bought half a pig and half a cow (split with another family we knew) every year and very rarely had to buy meat from a store

7:56 I actually prefer pea protein powder as an alternative to meat because it's a complete protein and it's like whey, super easy to mix in a drink. No cooking time needed or worrying about meat going bad in the fridge, etc. There are some good brands that just have simple ingredients without fillers and stuff, like just stevia, monk fruit, vanilla/cocoa. The vanilla flavored pea protein I buy tastes really good too.

Mushrooms are very sustainable, so a trend for a while was to mix minced mushrooms in with ground beef. Even the James Beard foundation was tying to promote it with their Blended Burger Project, but in the end plant based burgers got way more traction in the market. Still, if you can get mushrooms for cheap (they're usually under $2/lb where I live) I highly recommend trying it.
