Sadly Connor is also non-releasable. Alveus takes good care of him and keeps him happy and healthy, it's just so unfair that the illegal Connor trade has become so prolific. Remember that if you see people on Tiktok making videos with their illegal Connors, report them to the proper authorities, and don't support the illegal Connor trade. It's just not fair to the Connors.

It's especially sad when you see wild caught Connors in captivity... Those poor Connors used to live off of a healthy and varied diet, only to now live off of ham and cheese hot pockets in someone's home... It's such a sad situation.

Got a wolfdog hybrid puppy when I was 8, she passed a year or two ago peacefully due to old age. She was a fantastic personality and a true joy to love but a terror to fences, dirt, other neighborhood animals, and never got used to other people outside of the family. The list goes on. So let me tell you firsthand, now I'm an adult and idk what my parents were thinking, never again. Every time I watch I'm glad to see these two are so well taken care of.

the fact that alveus were told that the wolf dogs were scared of people, but within only 5 months they've already warmed up so much... that, combined with knowing now that Awa was used for breeding, and that their current enclosure is 10 times bigger than their old enclosure paints such a tragic picture. i'm so glad that they're out of that situation and are able to live out their golden years running and playing in a huge, fun enclosure. poor awa :(

Interesting things someone pointed out: The breed of Tamaskan is a dog that LOOKS like a wolf through breeding of several different other breeds over time. They have a more lupine look to them but are literally just regular ole canine pals that look the part without being the part. Tamaskan dogs are often used in place of actual wolves for film and such since they have the same appearance but are obviously easier to train than a real wolf. So if you want the look without the drawbacks then a Tamaskan dog is as close as you can get. Your opinion on breeding ethics may vary but it is the "wolfdog" without the wolf being involved.
@mainsidequest5203

Be very careful with the "Tamaskan" breeders. Many "Tamaskan" dogs have been tested and are wolfdogs, coydogs, coywolves etc., both "low content" and "high content". The easiest way to create a "wolf looking dog" is to just breed more tragic wolfdogs, so it's exactly what they do while selling you a fancy "ethical" breed that grows up to claw the walls and eat furniture because it doesn't belong in your house. Just rescue a dog and love it.

Hi Maya if you’re interested in other Wolf Dog sanctuaries and how they run their facilities, there is an awesome one near Calgary in Canada called Yamnuska. I had the opportunity to visit a few years ago and it was amazing, not only for their care of the beautiful animals but also their education and conservation efforts, teaching people why wolf dogs are not good pets, and saving dogs that otherwise would be culled yearly along with actual wild wolves in the area.

People breeding wolfdogs drives me nuts. We already have pet wolves, and they're called DOGS. That's literally what they are. And we have breeds like huskies and german shepherds that look like wolves, so if you're really that wolf obsessed, get one of those. (I mean, do your research, bc they're still a lot of work, but you know what I mean.)

there are waaay too many wolfdogs. people that are capable of taking care of them are rare. and there is no way of knowing what their behavior is gonna be like. they coukd be 70% dog but display a lot more wolf behavior. people think that because they are technically the same species that their behavior is similar. while in reality they are very different. so different that they often cant even properly communicate with one another.

Yes and if dogs get mixed in with a wolf population the wolf population might become more dangerous to us, because they have less fear of us and their instincts get wacky. They get less shy, come closer, are more likely to then get aggressive towards us and are then more dangerous for us.

Another important point about Wolves as a Keystone species not shown in these clips is their role of regulating mesopredators! As a lot of people in the US know, coyotes have a really bad reputation and get unfair treatment because of it due to their proximity with people. BUT a big part of that, aside from the obvious human encroachment, is that there is no top order carnivore to keep smaller predators in check. Studies on animal populations in Yellowstone especially have shown great changes the reintroduced wolves have made just by seasonally changing prey and keeping coyote populations at bay/reduced. The same is true for even larger predators like Puma(known as Mountain Lion or Cougar in much of America/Canada) as their relationship becomes more based on niche partitioning that would have occurred naturally before one species was removed from the ecosystem.

When it comes to dogs we humans are really messed up. We insist that the breeds breed, but with the way puppy farms are a lot of inbreeding occurs and now if you look at the skeleton of several breeds you see natural born deformities, high rates of cancer etc. A wolfdog is just asking for trouble as two incompatible instincts now exist. The domesticated dog and the wild wolf. If people want a "wolf", breed different large breeds together and get a healthier dog instead
@chronically_btch
@chronically_btch Ай бұрын
@@EndoftheBeginning17I mean, an ethically bred purebred is less likely to have health issues then a mixed breed/mutt. And many of the skeletal "deformities" that people think of when thinking of domestic dogs, are taken way out of context, exaggerated, and used as fear-mongering. They're also usually examples that come from horrible back-yard breeders and puppy mills. Ethical preservation breeders do not contribute to those issues. Adopt or shop responsibly folks!

Bulldogs can be bred ethically and in a healthy way, but unfortunately it's expensive and requires a lot of care and attention, so many breeders do not do it in a safe way. Also, those breeders are typically cheaper, and ask less questions, so people will buy the puppies from them. Which means a LOT of the bulldog (and other flat faced breeds) that you see on the day-to-day are badly bred. 😭 Well bred bulldogs (and other flat faced breeds) are super amazing and capable, and can even be very athletic!

If they had them intact (as in not spayed/nuetered) and kept together, then it doesn't matter if they did it "naturally". The facility still allowed it to happen and did nothing to prevent it from happening. It would not have been an accident. And if it were, there are ways to prevent them from giving birth to a litter even after being bred. They didn't do that. That means they WANTED the puppies to be born. The previous facility was not a good place and there is a reason the wolfdogs were moved to alveus.

I also know that wolfdogs are a massive risk and can become very dangerous very quickly with no warning. You can't take your experience and spread it as the only one that matters. There are always outliers in any situation. That doesn't change the fact that the percentage of cases that go wrong is so extremely high, and wolfdogs should not be pets.

Might be dumb but Isnt it the same as not letting crackheads breed? The parents cant take care of the child the same as the pet owners cant really take care of the wolfdogs coz they are not meant to be pet and doesnt know how to so they just get abused and abandoned.

are you deaf or deliberately ignorant? These animals are literally non-releasable. They are either permanently injured or have grown up in captivity, either way they lack the natural ability/instinct to survive in natural habitats. If they were released 100% all of these animals would die within a month due to being unable to hunt or forage for food. You are advocating for the death of these innocent animals. Monster.

If you care about animals you wouldn’t be advocating for euthanasia as an option. Many wolfdogs can live normal, happy, safe lives in a family home. I adopted a dog from a shelter that looks nothing like a wolf and didn’t find out they are ~20% wolf until I did an embark DNA test. I live in a state that wolfdogs are illegal at any percentage. My biggest fear is that someone will somehow find out and the state will put down my perfectly normal dog because of people fear mongering about hybrids. Since finding out I’ve done a ton of research and talked to other wolfdog owners (many accidental like myself). There are way more low percentages in the general population than people think. If the dog isn’t a high percentage they don’t get sent to sanctuaries they just get put down. Unless they show aggression or a bite risk they should be able to live out their lives. Address the issue with regulations on breeding not killing or taking away perfectly well behaved dogs. I hope you reconsider your stance and am open to having a discussion on the topic if you would like to educate yourself on what it’s like living with a low percentage wolfdog.

Wow your dog is definitely part wolf? Embark has a “wolfiness” rating that does not mean they are wolf, rather they have some of the appearance. It was definitely part of the breed(s) percentage? She didn't advocate for euthanasia. Saying that it's one of their two options isn't advocating for it. You yourself state how wolfdogs are illegal at any percentage in your own state leading them to be put down. Wolfdogs can be dangerous and saying that people shouldn't own them isn't fear mongering. People shouldn't own them and they shouldn't exist. That doesn't mean all the ones that do exist should be immediately put down it just means that no more should come into being. Advocating against owning wolfdogs IS advocating against breeding them. If people want them as pets, then they get bred. If you think people should own low percentage wolfdogs then they will keep breeding low percentage wolfdogs to give to people. I'm glad your wolfdog isn't a threat to you but frankly it's sad that they exist at all. They are not a "perfectly normal dog" because they're not entirely a dog. Them being a wolfdog is what is giving them the risk of being put down by the state, a risk they'd never have if they were just a 'perfectly normal dog'.

Ah yes your single experience definitely means that Wolf Dogs are all safe for all situations, completely ignoring that fact that over 90% of Wolf Dogs have to be given up because they've attacked people. @@jean-lucesterhuizen8279 Dude they only said to educate yourself. They didn't say any of what you mentioned. I'm sure if you have access to KZbin you could also get access to places that show just how dangerous it is to have wolfdog hybrids as pets in the modern age. Just because they started as wolves doesn't mean they should be hybridized with them again. Not only does it make them much harder to care for than the average dog, but it also puts people at risk because of their more aggressive nature. Even the most devoted "dog lover" might not have the skills to handle a wild animal. I can't send a link due to KZbin comments being weird with it, but I'd recommend looking at the International Wolf Center's page on it. There's plenty of reasons why they should not be considered equal to a pet, and need a more proper facility, like Alveus, in order to be cared for.
