whenever i look at old videos i will miss those no longer constantly present like norbert or julissa. like julissa's spicy sass and presence, maya have grown and matured a lot since her first video for sure. as a person who embraces her heritage that has grown better in Spanish to being a better producer or even an ally/friend that is dependable.

Much love to you outta Portland! You are great Maya! You know what is worse than not speaking great Spanish around your Latinx family, friends and peers? Not speaking great Spanish around a bunch of white guilt ridden, trust fund having, liberal arts school attending, Latina American studies majors that learned Spanish from their maids/nannies and/or at the Montessori schools they attended growing up...and they are all staring at you as you stumble around through reflexive verbs. One such person told me after Spanish class that I should "really know more about my 'colorful' culture." Eeew!

I'm pure Mexican (born and livin here my entire life) and for many years i didn't enjoy chile, cebolla, aguacate, frijoles, cilantro, mole and a lot of the Mexican traditional food, but i couldn't be more proud of our culture ❤️

I love you Maya! I grew up with immigrant parents (Honduras/Cuba) but they wanted to assimilate really hard so even though I can speak Spanish sometimes I feel a disconnect with Latinx who are "super" hispanic (ya'll know what I'm saying). It actually took a while for me to love being Latina because when I was younger it was always associated with being stupid or criminal and all those negative things and now I appreciate it so much more. I know what it's like and I totally empathize with you.
