The reason why Mayan Blue & Pyrrol Scarlet neutralize each other is following: - MB is akin to turquoise therefore it reflects mostly violet to greenish part of the visible spectrum - PS on the other hand reflects mostly orange to red part of the visible spectrum - when mixed together MB absorbs what reflects PS and vice versa - hence result is a grey

That's a great explanation - thank you for sharing (: 🙏🏼 Next time I'll get a hunch I'll think about it more deeply.

Pyrrol Scarlet also neutralizes well with Phthalo Blue and, to a lesser extent Prussian Blue. If I'm not mistaken Smalt is another 'blue' that works well

I love Mayan Blue Genuine. I mentioned in a previous comment that I painted a winter scene using only this paint. But, since it has granulation qualities that DS Phthalo Blue does not, it can be used for landscape scenes that are heavy on the greenery.
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea, haven't thought about using the granulations that way. I'll probably give this a shot with a monochromatic winter scene painting too (:

Just subscribed to your channel. 😎 I've only watched 3 or 4 vids, but I am LOVING everything about it...your emphasis on color and paint (I'm a total geek, but I could watch color swatching all day [not to mention actually doing it myself] 😂lolololol)...your ART is fantastic...seeing the sites in your outside videos is so fun! I've loved every video so far and learned a lot, already. You have a natural talent for teaching. And your English is impeccable!!! So, ty for your time! ...back to more of your videos, now hehe

Nice review. I try to never mix Primatek because they always create mud, weird greys or splotchy blacks. I like the greens this one makes
@gildejesus37145 жыл бұрын
Mayan blue is supposed to be done with anil(=indigo natural) and a mineral named "paligorskita"( i think is the way it writes). Tkx for posting.

Hi Liron, could you tell me where you buy Daniel Smith? is there a place in TA i don't know about! There's a guy in Jaffa who is the sole distributor for Schminke, but DS? Do you buy on the web?
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
It's hard to get them here. I used to order from Amazon, but they no longer ship to Israel. Try ordering from Jackson's. They do deliveries and I heard the price is great. And if not - I'd recommend Schmincke.

Thank you Liron... excellent review. I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't like mixing pigments generally but this Mayan does look more like a convenience color to me as there are so many ways I could mix it from what is already on my pallete. Thus, I don't know if I would invest in it.
@crystalinedreams60397 жыл бұрын
hi pat, what i did is buy the 6 5ml tube set of ds primatek. there are some nice colors in the set besides the mayan blue gen. and it saves investing in whole tubes till you decide if you really want to. you may not be interested at all but i just had to since i love crystals anyway and putting them in paints is just heaping on the goodness.
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
It's so similar to indigo too, that I wouldn't bother if I already got that one. @ Crystaline Dreams - that's a good point. I may give the whole set a chance in the future.
@flana16096 жыл бұрын
I don't know how they made the color in the tube, but since I live in the central America, I have seen them making the blue dyed fabric. They get the indigo dye from the leaves of a plant and activate the color in a clay mud. The secret is in the mud they say. It's not any mud. It is interesting that they mentioned light-fastness, because the original indigo blue that the Mayan use is known for their light-fastness, it can withstand time and weather. Honestly, I don't think the 2 justified the power of Mayan Blue 😂 It is a very interesting color, and the fact that they made it into a tube. There's a thing with this Mayan Blue, EVERYONE who makes it thinks it'a long lost recipe, and found/redeveloped/rediscovered by their company with this super ancient and secret technique to produce the paint/dye. I would love to be more specific with the type of plant and clay but they didn't tell me which kind 😂😂😂 The Mayan also made a more violet variation of that dye, but the bright indigo is the most long lasting one.
@LironYan6 жыл бұрын
Haha it's the "marketing romance" around these paints 😛 They always create interesting stories on how they are made. I would actually love to see the violet variation. It sounds beautiful. Does it have a different name, or a color it's similar to? I'd love to check it out.
@flana16096 жыл бұрын
Alright so according to what my friend, who does fabric dye. She told me there are 3 major colors, and it turns out they are not that big of a deal like all these rediscovered recipe. 1) Fustic plant dye, the older plant and younger plant makes a bit of variation, but they are bright yellow to orangeish color. They once used this dye to make the khaki military uniform. 2) Logwood dye which produce bright purple to indigo color. 3) Indigofera Suffruticosa dye which makes the most famous Mayan blue. You should google the title "Indigenous Plants to Produce Colorants and Dye" for some interesting articles too. I'm fascinated with this whole Maya thing, and people always like them make them sound like a long lost civilization that just somehow disappeared one random day, but it's way less mysterious than that, and a lot more brutal than we thought.

Commenting while watching but wow, lots of green. Almost turquoise. But you say it can be lifted. My turquoise is staining, even permanent. I agree with the greens. It would be a great jumping off point.
