Hi, I wonder is your answer in the conversion of 8292 to Mayan correct? I can't put this into Mayan, so I'll just use number. Your answer is 12, 0, 3, and 1 (just imagine this is in Mayan).. when you convert this into a number. Its not 8292. Instead 9212. Which is incorrect. My answer is 12, 14, 0, and 1. (Imagine this is in mayan) And when I convert it into number the answer is 8292 which is correct?? Am i wrong, correct me if i did wrong. I dunno if you get my point

No clue. Spent an entire week on this unit during my first year of university and it is the only numeration system we learned where they just decided to plot a random number in there. No, it does not make sense, but that is just the way it is.

By multiplying 20 by 18 instead of 20 the Maya made their equivalent of 100 be 360 instead of 400. In the first instance one of their calendars had 18 twenty-day months plus 5 extra days to make 365. So that each "tun" in the Long Count is close to a year. But also, if they used the 100=360 in their day-to-day calculations, 360 is divisible in far more ways than either 100 or 400. It would be as if we counted 10s up to 12 times instead of 10. We could then divide "100" by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24, 30, and 60.
