Growing up in Caracas, at one point living way, way up in the mountains when I was 11, about 1-1/2 hours away from the city center in a district called El Junquito, we had to shake out our shoes every morning in case of scorpions, and more than once I shook one out before it had a chance to sting me. I caught one once at *least* 4 inches long, which is kinda huge (I took it in to school in a glass jar and it *freaked* my classmates - and my teacher! - right out … it was dead, and in a lidded mason jar, but they still wouldn’t go near it), but nearly all the scorpions I saw or shook out of my shoes were smaller than my pinky’s fingernail … but what really freaked me out was, my adolescent kitten wanted to play with the tiny ones: the littlest scorpions would arch their backs when freaked out, so that their pincers and their stinger formed an arc over their back and their front and back legs were raised off the ground, and when they were in that position my cat would spin them with his paws … at least until I’d GRAB him and drag him away and then sweep the scorpion off of the porch/balcony. I was so scared I was going to come home from school and find my dumb, playful cat dead from a scorpion sting … but fortunately none of them ever got him. But to this day, even though I now live in the USA’s Midwest, I still shake my shoes out every morning, and seeing your scorpions really gives me the fear - like, I go hug my cat every time you put them on camera. But more power to you for making them ambassadors!

A coworker gave me one for my birthday this year! However, mine is a polar bear. I have 2 coworkers with birthdays close to mine and she got one of them a sea turtle and the other an elephant. They’re quite the neat little gift! (Though I am curious as to how they’re able to tag and track so many different animals!)

@@radlee974 i think they partner with organizations that tag tons of different animals for conservation and studying migration purposes… there’s a bunch of brands and animals u can track - giraffes, turtles, whales, lions, elephants, etc etc (i even saw a bracelet where u can a “adopt a queen bee” with the purchase, don’t think it tracks it tho but still cool!)

I just have a question; What is taking so long to get rid of the mites? The insects have been in their temp housing for a while now. I figured you'd just clean out the room and spray it down or something and it would be done. But it seems to be a larger/longer process? Please explain the situation. Thanks.

It's bc they tried not to use aggressive measures. Most stuff isn't good to use bc what harms mites would harm the inhabitants afterwards. But they have a new plan now. Not sure if you meant it that way but just to let you know: you sound a little overcritical with your comment. If you don't trust the team don't watch.

@@Adamas97 mites afaik are quite resistant to those measures and would be treated with insecticide usually. But insects are exactly who they want to be able to live there and any residue would harm them. Quite the dilemma...

It looks like you have found a serious benefactor in Nate there. Remember to always be gracious and kind when accepting/receiving thousands of dollars in supplies and computer equipment. ;p I think you could use a nice, finished, heavy-duty wall of shelves behind you when doing these streams, covered in terrariums/aquariums with some of your wildlife ambassadors on display. I think it would really up your edutainment quotient. Just a thought toward bringing your institution to an even larger audience? I love the idea of letting the audience opt in to help enrich the animals with web-activated enrichment. Alvaeus should definitely look into this for your other, "cuter" ambassador species like the foxes, chinchiluas, marmisets, parrots etc. if the activation mechanisms can be silenced/dampened?
