Any chance you can share the minimum equipment needed to help a kid get into welding? When I think of welding equipment I think of 220v welders with giant tanks of argon hanging off the side. But would a couple hundred dollar harbor freight stick welder do the trick? Or will that not let them do anything useful?

Life skills for all. Proper tool usage and maintenance. Basics of; carpentry, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving, net and basket making and other cordage skills, cooking, laundry, fire extinguishing (extinguisher, salt, baking soda, water, dirt), fire making, first aid and banking. These are all basics that kids used to learn at home, in the "scout" type groups, and at school. Stretched over the 18 years we give them to become adults, exposing our children to these interests is very doable. No one need be an expert, but knowing basics of how things work is important, even if only so that you can tell if someone you hire to do a job is competent or not. IT skills are being taught everywhere these days, but how things work...not so much. You folks are doing a great job.

So happy to see more of you guys! Don't underestimate what you think is 'random stuff' that's not important or interesting. It can be very valuable to someone else! It was very informative watching you work on the router-tiller and explain things about it, and also how you talked about the fact 'these things aren't taught in school anymore'. You're so right! These ARE valuable skills and while you teach you boys how to weld, you can teach some of us! Even if its just some basics. Your example of 'if you can draw a circle, you can weld', actually made me think it is a possibility for me to learn to weld and sparked a desire in me to learn something that I didn't think was possible until you said that today!!! You have a powerful platform to influence many many people, even me; a middle aged single mum in Perth, Western Australia, the opportunity to learn a new skill, to become a reality. So thank you for ALL that you share. It IS valuable!

I am glad that my granddaughter learned how to weld in high school. She just turned 20 in February and last December she started working as a welder at a place where they make custom lowboy trailers. She was the only female working there. She has also been featured in our local newspaper for working on vehicles. I agree that too many kids nowadays don't have life skills that they need. Thank you for sharing your daily life and we enjoy watching.

Ben, you'd be surprised how many people you're inspiring by "just fixing my rototiller" . The most important people y'all are inspiring is your son's. I noticed how quick one of the boys ran after his little sister after she ran up the hill. Think of what a great dad he will one day be? You're also inspiring other young men as well. You're important Ben, and there is no "just". There just is. God bless your family! Keep on keepin on!

Good job on fixing the tiller. I've read that the saying, "I'm fixin' to....." originated from early frontier farmers having to repair (fix) their equipment before they could do a planned chore. They didn't have a Home Depot to go buy new equipment. Ben was fixin' to till!! Love your channel!

Suggestion on the gearbox, put a few squirts of grease in it, it want run out like gear oil, yet will slow down on gear and chain wear. You might finish the season while looking for another one. Wished you were closer to Ga. I have a great troy-bilt for sale, I bought new, always garage kept, still a great machine. At 77, I'm finished with tilling, now, slowed way down and in smaller raised beds.

@Shelle Brand, your father was a teacher and you probably learned faster because you had to do things he couldn't. So many times people get frustrated with someone learning and "do the job themself". That takes away from the person who is learning. Knowing how to do something and being able to explain to someone else is a skill that we all could use. Blessings.
