I remember years ago my Dad and I decided to watch this concert out of impulse, and we were definitely enjoying it up until this point. When John started singing I remember we were just in awe and unable to react, just sheer amazement. And then came the tears and my Dad muttering "wow...". Miss you, Dad.

@@RHCPsTv you think this cover is better than The Chantels original? This is a great, shortened version - and it’s awesome that he gives homage to a relatively unknown group from a generation ago. But the original is a far better, and stronger version. Obviously music is subjective. But most people that aren’t complete simps over John (and believe me, he’s one of the inspirations that got me into playing guitar almost two decades ago)and can remain neutral between the two would disagree with you on that

He's very brave about exposing himself as a work in progress to the world. Everything from the legendary drug use in the past (I'e seen a few of those videos and felt kind of creepy afterwards for watching, tbh...like when I watched that HBO or Showtime series about dying and showed real deaths. The thing is I care but I'm not sure he does. I feel the same about his deviating from the rock and learning the electronics bc that is hard enough...when good at something already to chose to start a whole new chapter. i won't allow much to be recorded of what I do...I've only be taking and allowing photos more than twice a year or so fairly recently. So. to me, just anouncing that he's planning to learn something and publish his progress is committing to something and brave. I'm also starting to suspect he could do more than just the music. He's so good with imagery and discovering other ways of experiencing music (like movement, colors, designs, speed and perception etc...) that I could see him putting together a muti-level project, like a musical or opera or ballet:)) That's hard bc there a whole world to create and sustain for hours but I can see him doing it for some reason.

When you look at this, It shows how truely special John is, for me he's the best thing since Hendrix, and he clearly idolises Hendrix and learns to often play things like he did. The Voice (so good, at so much stuff, and he can sing like the beegee's without batting an eyelid, Talent, Unusual/Different Unique Style. Can Shred, Make it scream and Cry, so much emotion in the guitar and his voical tones (which he doesn't just have one range, I mean here he's replicating a female singer, whilst sounding like himself, the mans a genius). Just listen to his voice and the guitar, then go and listen to the original and come back, and realise how much John's replicating the entire song on his own/sound wise/timing, the inflection timing on the singing in sync with his playing, and then the big holding note (which he doesn't use his lips to vibrate, he's vibrating it all in the back of his throat, his lips barely move). What an absolute animal of a man, glad he's back with the Chilli's but I wish he'd never done the leaving/coming back so often. Amazing guitarist, my Number 2, RiP Jimi.

i saw this show live. it was an amazing day of music...morcheeba, pj harvey, queens of the stone age, foo fighters and RHCP. this song was definitely a standout moment of the day. 🙂 an interesting side note...there is actually an edit in the song that goes virtually unnoticed on the dvd. when john started the song, he got really, really high with his pitch. he had to stop at one point and reel it back in. when he started the song again, the crowd cheered because they were really enjoying it, even if they didn't know the song. the edit happens when the camera is shown facing him and the stage...then when it comes back, it's from john's back looking out at the audience. you can hear the crowd pick up a bit at that because he was starting again. on the dvd, it looks and sounds like he's just continuing along.
