In my 23 years of homeschooling, I have found The Fallacy Detective to be my favorite, most reliable logic resource, which we begin in the 7th grade. Prior to that, our children go through the Mark K. Schoenfield series: Playing with Logic, Discovering Logic, and Adventures with Logic. You may find that some of the arguments in Illustrated Bad Arguments are not solid examples of the fallacies they represent. You will spot those right away and can make changes. Thanks for the art History recommendation. It looks wonderful and easy to incorporate into our school year.

For your logic course for the girls you could look into getting them the novel "Sophie's world" by Jostein Gaarder. It's a philosophical novel geared towards teenager and I absolutely loved it when I was younger. I really think you would like how it approaches philosophy through storytelling.

I love the new TGTB science format! We just started motion and simple machines and the lessons take 20 minutes as opposed to 40 minutes with me all over the place. I don't dread teaching science now. And I would love an update on the new LA. I have gotten the new LA4 and LA5 recently and have loved the formats on those. Also, the new TGTB preschool is amazing! The videos and songs are the key to it I think and it truly is the highlight of my day...highly recommend!!!

You can do it! Keep those heads up. I would save some money throughout the year so that way you can set aside for curriculum ago and the beautiful is the most cost effective just go with them if not I hear people doing work books from brain quest and then things that they have laying around the house. Check out the family that learns KZbin they do stuff like that.

My kids LOVED the edge of extinction books. I already downloaded and started new language arts level 1 with my 7 year old and we are LOVING it. She can read through several AAR level 1 stories, but TGTB covers some LA concepts earlier than AAR, so I went with level 1 for her because I could download it free. I did NOT like their original LA for grades up to level 4 before this, so I was just teaching my kids to read with a mixture of Montessori, AAR methods, and good ole momma know-how. I’m so glad for the changes now. It’s simple enough we can add to it if we want without feeling like busy work.

The money matter for Teen book was a good idea but the assignments in there are off the wall. We didn’t enjoy it near as much as we hoped we would. The little lessons are fun though. They don’t necessarily dive into one particular thing too deeply but it gives a good “overall” explanation to banking and debt. The activities tho were just too out there for us. Example: one activity for the lesson was (paraphrasing) “take your parents credit card and give yourself a budget to go buy something and you have to pay it back before interest happens” and “tell your parents you will do the budget and the bills for 1 whole week without their help”. Just some really weird assignments. But we made modifications to them and made it work. I’m sure you will too 🙃 But it certainly wasn’t our favorite.

I have a quick question: my son is 2 and a half and I am 95% sure we will homeschool (gotta leave room). I am very interested in your 6 week course. However, I was hoping you could help me get a better grasp for when your course would be more appropriate? Should I wait until he is closer to 4? Is it never too early to start? I am new to homeschooling, first child, first home school.. and I am sorry if I missed an explanation for this kind of question here or elsewhere. I hope my question makes sense. I appreciate any and all advice! Many thanks if you took the time to read and respond.

All about reading for phonics, if anyone needs reading instruction. Language arts BJU press for a more traditional feel and teachers manual. I’m gonna try Essentials in Writing, video lessons this year with my 5th grader. They need more in-depth instruction with writing. I used language lessons for a living education with my no attention span child, it’s worked well for them so far…though I don’t recc LLFALE for reading instruction. I’ve used ABeka but it is advanced, so do a good assessment of where your child is before choosing the grades they offer. Math Apologia Math is good, mastery based. I like math lessons for a living education to an extent, worked with my kid who wasn’t good at math. However, I’m going to try Learn Math Fast - book 1, this year with my 1st, 3rd and 5th graders to solidify basic facts before moving them all up to grade level curriculum. I’ve used and like ABeka math for grades K & 1, again advanced and I don’t like their teachers manuals. I Used Apologia math 2 and it was okay, my child got bored with it, but prob bc it’s mastery. Overall, it is good. Hands-on, game and manipulative based and 4 days a week! But they only have through grade 4 avail this year. I’ve heard good things about BJU press math (again test them bc their levels are advanced).
