Hey Jojo! So excited that I'm all caught up on videos, they're extremely helpful! My 2 reasons for wanting a Phd in ClPsy is 1. provide assessments to a population that is already underserved with limited resources 2. the research and experience under supervised professionals I graduate with MS in school counseling next year. I can become an LPC and have private practice, but I want to be able to offer as much as possible for the population I want to work with.

Those are both amazing reasons!

9:28 -- Definitely a fact. I've seen some assessments go around $6k-$10k for a comprehensive neuropsych evaluation. It's also probably dependent on the area and clientele who are able to pay those amounts, as well as the work that goes into an assessment.

Are you serious? This is incredibly unrealistic info for the average clinician...

So, I am older and planning to submit my application to a school that costs a ridiculous amount of money to attend. I am feeling incredibly nervous about the money and how I am going to live-- but I know that if those weren't obstacles I would jump in without a second thought. Since those ARE real life obstacles I was just wondering what your plan is after graduating... what are your loan payments going to look like, do you know? I want to do this, and I also don't want to feel trapped or unable to live comfortably after graduating due to student loan repayment T^T

Super helpful and insightful. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I would be interested to know what your PhD is focused around and how you chose the topic. I am not sure what topics to explore if I decide to go down the route of research and applied therapy. Anyways, thanks for making these videos, your channel saved me~

A PhD in Psychology is a great idea if you really want to graduate with $200,000 + in student loan debt and get an incredibly stressful job where you are exhausted and burned out within 2 - 3 years and can barely make your bills. Enjoy! Oh...by the way...I am a Psychologist...

Why did you initially want to get a Psychology PhD or go into psychology?
@JimB162 ай бұрын
@@TivPatterson Hi. I have been a Psychologist for over 30 years and have had a good career. I enjoyed college courses in Psychology and the loans to complete a degree were high...but not as outlandish as they have become. Prospective students should be aware of the economics and emotional challenges of the profession. The academic programs do not adequately addresses this in their advertisements...

The good PhD programs are fully-funded programs with graduate assistantship positions not including stipends. It is though work, but this opinion is one pathway in a sea of options.

I just discovered your channel and thank you so so much for all your insight (you are genuinely saving me). Also your nails in this vid are so cute! One thing I was wondering tho is if PsyDs are less recognized than PhDs? I have been talking to some people in the industry who say that PsyDs aren't as respected or valued.
@jojodouglasАй бұрын
@@miacarlabusiness thank you so much! To answer your question, I’m not super familiar with the reputation of PsyDs. Tbh I don’t often find myself in spaces with many people who have PsyDs, and that’s probably because it seems like fewer PsyDs end up pursuing research careers. The majority of PsyDs I end up meeting are through my clinical work. I wouldn’t say that they’re less respected at all though, at least not from what I’ve seen. I imagine those who share that sentiment are referring to PsyDs in academia, as PsyD programs typically place less emphasis on research. But I encourage you to talk to any PsyDs you can connect with to gauge the environment from their perspectives

How do you manage to study this PhD and make money?
@jojodouglas2 ай бұрын
@@audreyann7974 Hi there! That’s a great question. Most PhD students work part time - often as teaching assistants, teaching fellows, and/or research assistants at their institutions. Some folks might also opt to work full time jobs outside of their institutions, but this is wry much discouraged since clinical psych programs require so much time and energy.
