Why is it, that with all of the advances that have been made in RC aircraft, we STILL cannot devise a robust retractable landing gear that will hold up reliably? It just seems outrageous to me that we continue to see planes landing on failed gear. I think most would agree that the consumer would be willing to pay substantially more for landing gear they could rely on. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve
@krotchlickmeugh6274 жыл бұрын
No, no we wouldn't pay ore than the ridiculous prices we pay now. Most of the failures you see are pure negligent paintinence or shitty air systems. Electrics have their failures but only the cheap ones. Have you seen real aircraft land with gear failures? Yeah happens all the time. Same reasons negligent maintenance. Air systems aren't really used as much today. But there's millions of rc planes that were made a long time ago that have never been converted to new tech. Others are built by old guys that think what they used 20 years ago was good then and is good now. Its not

@icewalker1174 жыл бұрын
I don't understand . When I started flying r/c planes - one of the 1st things i learnt was to set your prop in the horizontal position just as the compression starts - that way if you have a dead stick the prop stays horizontal and clear of the ground. (obviously not for the 3 or 4 blade props ) ...

I love these videos. But a question for those in the know… why do so many landing wheels fail to deploy? And why when they do deploy they fail so much? Can’t they make the landing gear beefier, stronger?
@evansabo49083 жыл бұрын
I work at a hobby shop in Canada, but here it's hard to find retracts for decent price, and along with if it'll actually fit the aircraft you want to install them onto. You can make them more "beefy", it's just often time's you'll sacrifice weight for better retracts that are custom built for your likings. But these are compilations and not all of these mishaps happen on the same day, but radio control I hear is far more popular up in Europe, then North America, and that's why I suspect that there are more content coming out of these guys then North America... If that make's sense. Hope that helps :D

Years ago, I was judging an RC scale contest at our field. One of the contestants, flying Dauntlas, made a hard belly landing on Saturday, he was from out of town, so one of the local fliers, invited him to fix it and fly Sunday. Sunday morning he made a test hop, everything looked fine. He flew the second flight on our line and mid flight, it suffered a catastrophic wing failure, he called it as one of his scale maneuvers, yelling Mayday...Mayday. We gave him tens for it, it was only the second thing on his flight. The next year someone else flew a Dauntles and made his way up in altitude, nosed over, flaps deployed, he dropped the bomb, then got watching the bomb, the bomb hit mid runway, a few feet further down, the plane hit, total loss, I was watching this time. Things do happen in RC, and not always what we want.

Tip: Prevent damage to your engine and possibly your prop from a prop strike by shutting down your engine on short final. That’s what is done with real planes and aware pilots. I know pilots that have had the awareness to even bump the starter to position a 2 blade prop horizontally to avoid contact with the ground. Saves BIG BUCKS on real planes. I enjoyed the video. Thanks.
@krotchlickmeugh6274 жыл бұрын
On real planes props are big bucks. Unless we're talking giant scale or 3D planes were talking at most $40 for a prop

The purpose of the prop turning is to cut holes into the air for the plane to fall into....once it stops the holes dissapear, hence the plane comes down, or so it was written in our club magazine in the jokes section the one time in 1992. Good memories. ❤

With money these folks have in these things,they seem to have A LOT of undercarriage/landing gear problems!! 1435-40ish that old kite was extremely underpowered! Turned up wind and just couldn't keep up enough speed to fly! Against a wind soft enough it wouldn't even let him hover it down! Couple more CCs might be needed! Good thing about that plane though,couple guys eating popcicles and a spare t-shirt,plus a little super glue and your ready to fly!

It seems to me that you know little about RC airplanes. It's not the landing gear, but rather negligence in maintenance. Air loss due to frayed pipes or defective valves is one of the main reasons. It can also happen that something on the system has been bent due to a previous hard landing. _Anyway ... thanks for your comment._ 🤙😎

Always annoys me that people comment about how we haven't come up with reliable tech for landing gear. Seems these are the same people that don't own an rc with retracts. Listen people these are the exception. Poor maintinence is a huge issue with these guys. The term "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" does not get used in aviation nor should it in the scaled down models. Air systems are also extremely unreliable. Shit happens and electrics can have malfunctions as well. Mostly due to poor quality however and far more rare than Air systems. If you don't know then maybe ask rather than comment and show your ignorance. You're also watching a video dedicated to saves saves and near saves. What would you expect?
