No sweat about the lyrics from me. I listen at least a dozen times before Maynard's singing turns into actual words. it even keeps the song fresher when you don't know WTF the song's about and you slowly, "get it."

Happy Birthday! This one was a standout this first time I heard it. Jambi came from the riff. Jambi was the genie from Pee-Wee's playhouse. The riff had that candece so they named the song Jambi. Then the lyrics "I would wish it all away" works with that as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn-YnImsh52Jh6ssi=JkPV26UgQeJXla22 In my opinion this song has to do with achieving so much like money, fame, power and such but realizing that none of that is truly important when compared to the connection with a person you love that is gone. This whole album 10,000 days relates to the time Maynard's mother was paralysed then passed away so he may have written about his mother. Just like all art your interpretation is your own.

Well, in regards to story behind the track (very emotional taking lyrics into consideration). Apparently, there are two baselines, one that the track is about the suffering of losing Maynard's (singer/vocalist) mom (the album title, 10,000 days, is strictly related to numbers of days she struggled with sickness and being impaired). The second one links this song to Maynard's son. Anyway, Tool's lyrics always got you something you should think of. Happy birthday and spiral out :)

Tool is absolutely best listened to just as you do, listen to the music first, the lyrics will come! The whole reason Maynard stays low in the mix most of the time is because he uses his voice as an instrument, not as the guy shouting at you...LOL. Only makes since that you'd wanna listen to the music first, simply because of that.

When I watch you listen to Tool, it reminds me exactly of me.... how I feel and the experiences I have, which is really enjoyable. Like looking in a mirror!
