I think this is a great tune, I have this recording, he was amazing esp. in this time period in the 40's, 50's 60's, 70's, and 80's was the best, I love all his recording, and it is amazing how he can just switch from each instrument like nothing.

it's all about air coordinated and directed by embouchure and brain. in maynard's case, the soul is a strong influence as well. sets him well above other high register melody players...great clip. thanks.

Maynard was a great horn player.

Having seen this a few times, it just now dawned on me that he started with 2 large bore mouthpieces and ended with the small bore. It takes tremendous chops and air pressure to pull that off!

He adjusted very quickly.

Amazing comeback for Maynard. He was a drug addict in the 1950's, went to Switzerland and got cured. Practiced yoga and became one of the best trumpet players ever.

How do you know that?
@curtiseby85934 жыл бұрын
That’s not true
@WilderFerguson3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely untrue... Maynard was never a drug addict. But he did go to India and practiced yoga and breathing techniques. He was a very spiritual person.

He liked his acid as he got into the mid- to late-'60s, but Maynard as a '50s drug addict? Fake news.

Some of the comments below are way off base. Maynard was never "addicted to drugs" and he did not make any "comeback". He never had to because he never fell down as a trumpet player. He was not "one of the best". He was THE BEST trumpet player throughout his entire career and will never be equaled.
