People used to give MJK such a hard time assuming he was the reason for things taking so long with Tool, and you can tell he loves his bandmates but you can also tell that he gets frustrated with the way they work without him and it seems they maybe don’t include him on a lot of the decision making. I think I remember him saying once that on Aenima and the albums before that, that he would actually be in the room with the other guys and contribute to the songwriting other than just lyrics and vocals. Apparently that changed after Aenima and the other guys started to write all the music together without Maynard and dont give it to him to add his stuff on top until they are completely finished with it. Im sure he’s fine with that dynamic now since he has other things that he can do while he waits, but you can tell he was getting sick of ppl pointing the finger at him-likely precisely because he had the other projects going, despite those projects being a result of not wanting to just sit on his ass while Adam Danny and Justin did their thing. Oh and there was that really long lawsuit they had to deal with for a while there too. I’m pretty sure this will be worth the wait. 10,000 Days certainly was and I seriously doubt that they’ve softened like I’ve heard other ppl are expecting/assuming.
