It won't add revenue to the existing businesses and it's going to be horrible for getting to Jefferson hospital. Parking will be even more of a nightmare. There is no reason for the arena to be in Chinatown of all places. The Navy Yard would have been a great alternative rather than destroying a community. No one who actually lives, works, and frequents this area wants the arena. The fact that people are falling for this money grab that will benefit no one but the already extremely wealthy is just exhausting.

I say build it! It's not in Chinatown so it's not actually gentrifying anything and it's replacing an old decrepit mall. This will be walkable for everyone in Center City and SEPTA accessible. It'll finally clean up this very sad part of part of Market East by allowing for more concerts and events in the city and it even comes with a residential tower so we're adding much needed housing as well.

People blocking investments is why American cities look so old with most downtown buildings dated in the decades of years. The current people living there now wouldn't have even existed if the prior investments didn't occur. If you own the land and are following the laws, you should be able to build what you want with your money. Then these same people get shocked why they live in dilapidated buildings and a city that visually looks like it once thrived decades ago. Not every building is special and worth protecting, especially when you consider cities have existed in timelines of hundreds or thousands of years. Blocking investments also prohibits improvement in standard of living. Imagine if new york blocked everything, it wouldn't be as big of a world class city as it is today even though they are also going through similar issues.

20,000 seats traveling through there 3-4xs a week would definitely add revenue to the Fashion District, small stores on Market and Chestnut, and Chinatown. Parking and empty street scapes would be revitalized by that plan.

Worst decision ever. There are reasons sports teams left the inner city. Just review the history. This grid is from colonial times with the same street width. Why would you move an arena to an area where you are forcing people to take public transit and cost them their lives plus gridlock if they drive? Council please block this and send the are arena to South Philly

@@enarush1 idk maybe it's political will and cost. It's a literally city so to not focus on public transit at the same time isn't smart. They shouldn't hinder growth opportunities and investment because of it though.

That Gallery / Fashion District mall is a real dud. It’s a good idea to put something more worthwhile in the space. This will bring thousands of spectators into Center City multiple nights a week and boost other businesses in the area. My only concern: parking. Make it super-expensive and encourage people to use public transit.
@JohnSmith-ct5jdАй бұрын
Revitalize Center City? Center City doesn't need anymore "revitalization" (i.e. congestion.). There are plenty of other areas in the city where a new stadium would do far more good, such as Kensington, or the old Coney Mack Stadium area in West Lehigh Avenue.

It won't add revenue to the existing businesses, only the new businesses inside the arena. The reports they've generated are biased and intentionally misleading.
