i have had maytag engines.flew large rc planes.never thought of this.awsome
@brushbros3 жыл бұрын
One fellow just awhile back fell into a similar propeller/Maytag combo head first. His body was slung neatly sliced onto the wall behind. So! Attach some smooth circular object without blades as a flywheel. Call me "Stubby!" I learn the hard way.

These were used on practice drones for gunnery practice. Very simple and as inexpensive as feasible given the projected life span. Usually used for 50cal gunner practice for the B17, and Liberator gunners. Later farmers would use them in fruit orchards to prevent freezing. The small 4 cylinder Lycoming engines worked better though and lasted much longer.

Scott Pecora "These" were not used on drones! go check the pictures of the "Radioplane" drone motors...there is a pretty good picture with Marilyn Monroe.....

Aother easy modification would be to fit the Cech bike or moped 50ccm CZ Jawa pistons and cylinders, or for reed valves? The Austrian Puch bike had an upgrade kit with reed valves and a 90ccm displacment, it would give you nearly 200ccm displacment if the strokes are close.

Hahaha I don't believe for one minute that there's enough power that motor to run an airplane

Anything with a Maytag is going to be a blast to mess with.

never seen a maytag start that easy. nice job

I've never seen one like that. Nice engine.

It is safe to say that Maytag 72 engines are a bit conservatively rated, but this thing wouldn't make enough power for anything more than a small UAV.

Any idea how much more HP she's making now? I only need to be able to coax 3+ for my needs.
@secondmouse199011 жыл бұрын
This sort of thing used to be used for giant fans to push air on land. The Maytag is a bad choice for souping up due to it not being able to breathe and scavenge well at high speed, and because the bearings used are unsuited to high impact loadings. IIRC some of them have intakes theough a hollow crankshaft. Not the sort of component you want to overload in an aeroplane. They do make lovely marine engines though, how about putting it in a small motor skiff.

It might be able to move a lightweight cart if it was sitting on one, about as much as you'll pull. It would only fly if you throw it off a cliff. :)
@beaverspirits13028 жыл бұрын
I would like to build one of these. What diameter propeller did you use?
@TestECull12 жыл бұрын
Reliability isn't a concern. Those Maytag motors are as reliable as the sun itself if they're fed enough oil. Power is the big issue. That engine is HEAVY and the porting is absolutely terrible. Fine for the day and application it's built for, but not for flying. It might work on an RC airboat though. I reckon, though, if you want a twin two-stroke for an aircraft you buy a DLE-111 and call it a day.

Surprised it has enough vacuum to draw the fuel up. Very cool!
@CharredSteak6 жыл бұрын
tiporari the carb that he's using has an impulse fuel pump. They pull fuel with very little vacuum because they have a check valve in em

Very cool, but damned if I would fly in an airplane powered by one. would definitely have potential for using on a small johnboat turn it into an everglades style airboat
@HeliosLives14 жыл бұрын
how much does it weigh? would it really be powerfull enough to power an ultralight airplane?
@The-Junkologist15 жыл бұрын
Pretty cool, but that prop scares me! I wouldn't want to get bit by it!

Do you still have that engine??

Interessante. Mas por motivo de segurança, acho que devia haver uma pintura amarela nas extremidades da hélice! É apenas uma sugestão! Abraço.

@arnoldemch91819 жыл бұрын
DesertDigger1 Sorry. But dont think that is a Stanley. Thought it maight be a flying tea kettle, but the hook looks like a coffin nose sorta but no cigar.
@joesitter2010110 жыл бұрын
Wow. That's really a well running Maytag engine. Good job. The only thing that bothers me is how the engine stand appears to me "walking" on the table. I can just imagine how your arms and legs would look when that prop does its' thing as the whole apparatus begins to fall to the floor. If that happens, maybe you shouldn't put that video on KZbin.

Did you know that Evinrude boat engines share the same crank, and Cylinder pattern as a Maytag twin, The Piston and Jug off of the Sachs 80-98 ccm motorbike fit them two, Be neat to fit it with Sach cylinders and Reed valves, The block looks To me to be pretty nearly identical to the old reciprical saw pattern as well, I know for a Fact that at least one of the Saws fit's Cylinders from the CZ Jawa 50ccm bikes. And Jawa cylinders fit Puch and Tomoso 90cc jug kits.
