My Maytag dryer is exactly the same as the one in the video. All the same controls and printing on the control panel. Maytag Dependable Care, Quiet Pack, Heavy Duty. It is model LDG4916AAE and serial # 10736647QY. Manufactured in Nov 1996, Newton Iowa USA. Btw, I did all this work on mine by myself. I just did this repair this morning. A little hack to make it much easier and save some wear on your knees. Unbolt the wheel shaft and pull the whole assembly out. Its easier than reaching back there to take the snap ring off. The replacement kit comes with new shafts so assemble them first then all you have to do is bolt it back up.

This was a big help to me. One thing I did differently because I have an awful snap ring plier is I put them on before placement of the wheel... this was real easy on the left side and not too bad on the right but on that side there is only room for a wrench behind the wheel but I had new wheels so the nut could be hand tightened mostly. Thanks for making the video.

Thanks. Very helpful. The belt on my Maytag #LDE9306ACE had slipped into a groove on the drum and was thus, not in the right place. This caused the belt to appear to be too long and rub against itself at the motor pulley. Just needed to see how the belt was routed. Exactly what I needed to see. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video... big help. I would like to add a tip on the belt... It wants to curl back to the way it is packaged making it hard to get it twisted correctly (smooth side around the drum) as it curls and I found getting it in position on the motor and slack adjuster difficult. I used 4 magnets in the end but later thought if I had hung it with a heavy weight overnight in the correct configuration it might have made a difference.

That is a good idea. Probably could be applied to anything that is coiled up like that. It seems like I am always buying parts just before I install them...like the belt for the lawn mower deck. Always has a tight bend in it.

If your rollers were binding up, it is a good idea to replace the shafts along with the new rollers. There is a 9/16 nut and lockwasher on the back side of the mounting plate. I have found it wise to use only OEM Rollers. I had to replace 2 aftermarket rollers at different times. Better to do repair 1 time in lifetime than multiples!

@michellesfrugallivin5 жыл бұрын
thanks for watching. On a side note, it turned out that the plastic fan blades in the blower was causing the noise. The hole where it went onto the metal rod that is connected to the motor used to have a flat area that matched a flat area on the rod. It was all worn out and the rod had made the hole completely round. It was just flopping around on the rod.
@xoringe3 жыл бұрын
My Maytag MDE5500AYW developed a loud squealing due to a dragging right-hand drum support roller just like yours. I replaced both rollers while I was in there and now it runs like new, BUT… The old roller failed because 19 years of supporting a slightly angled drum shifted the roller rearward ~3mm on its bearing until it eventually rubbed on the white metal housing behind it. So if you clean your spindle and it looks fine, check to see if the metal bearing is still centered in the support roller. If not, press it back in or just FLIP IT AROUND for 19 more years, free!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I have a model LDE9806ACE and your video is the only one that I found with instructions that almost exactly corresponded to this model. The only difference is one additional wire attaching to connector on the front panel along with the yellow and white wires. Also, using the rear access panel to get to the pulley assembly is brilliant! So much easier than all the other videos I found showing people reaching around and working by feel back there. I've got it apart now and diagnosed to a bad drum roller. I'll probably replace the belt while I'm at it, given the dryer is 26 years old now .😃 I have a question for you: When I removed the front panel, there were two pieces of foam, about an inch thick, that just kind of fell out. It looks like they were attached to the door. They have deteriorated to the point where I wouldn't attempt to put them back. I haven't seen any mention of something like this anywhere. Did your dryer have similar foam pieces inside the front panel?
@michellesfrugallivin Жыл бұрын
I am glad you found my video. We made these dryer videos because we couldn't find any for us to watch so I figured people would find them useful. I don't know about the foam pieces. It does seem odd they would be in there. Doesn't seem like you would want foam in something that heats up. After you get to using it again, keep an eye on it to see if you think they were actually doing anything for you.

Awesome video! I’m a bit confused with the direction of the belt. I’ve replaced many belts in the past however this model is a bit different. A first for me. The pulley is quite big and the direction in which it goes in your video would put the grooves facing outside instead of against the drum. (In order for the grooves to sit on the shaft) am I correct or confused lol heeellllllllppppppppp 😊
@michellesfrugallivin3 жыл бұрын
someone else commented that too. It has been long enough that I don't remember. You should really go with what you think works especially since you have done them before. I don't remember there being any problem after we put it all back together. And not too long after we replaced this belt he was given a new washer and dryer so we don't have it any more.
@jz532232 жыл бұрын
The belt goes on, smooth side against drum. A little counter-intuitive, but that's how it goes on. As you said, so that the grooved side rides on the motor shaft.

@enavy584 жыл бұрын
Thank you for pointing out the difference in terminology. Whether you want to call it a split ring or a snap ring? The important thing is to understand that it’s a metal retaining ring, that holds the roller in place, on the shaft. NOT an “O” ring, which is usually rubber and that usually keeps fluids in a cylinder. This is an excellent video of superior quality and lighting, so you can see how things work and are assembled. Thank you Michelle and your man too! Awesome work!

you might need to clean out your vent pipe. The lint collects in there and really decreases the drying. This might mean disconnecting it from the back of the dryer for access in the house and go outside and clean out the opening on your house. You can buy a brush on a flexible handle to run through it to really clean it out.

No. This dryer is gas. It could be the switch if you have gas. If you have electric it could be a sensor that is connected to the coils or the coils or the switch on the door or the on off switch. If you have a handyman shop that sells appliance parts they can test you sensor or switch to see if they are bad. I did a video on a whirlpool dryer electric that had no heat.
