Yeah, in their case they're kinda old, but to be fair, one can just be oblivious about what that is. Like my younger cousins who are 14-16 don't know anything about the "core" aesthetic trend, and they pretty much have been internet raised. Probably those trends are not very present in other parts of the internet that belong to certain languages.

It always depends on which aspect of "goth" you want to oppose. The dark colours? Then maybe. But if you see goth as a "dark style with a lot of accessoires and effort into the styling" then suddenly gyaru is the same in every aspect except for the colours ^^ Prep also just goes so far as the opposite, if you don't also want to oppose the "youth culture style". The opposite of a high-effort, youth culture goth style might be more something like a bland office style...
