A view of Maywood, NJ on July 4th 1955.... a great number of folks in the town came out to celebrate.

Wow! What a memory!! The man on the white horse at 13 seconds was Col. Lydecker, a very prominent citizen. He led most Maywood parades on his famous white horse. About 6 years later I earned a silver 50 cent piece a few times by raking up the leaves around his mansion. Loved exploring his barn ! He was house-bound by then, but his wife was very sharp and kind to us neighborhood kids. I believe the Lydecker Home on the site of the old red&tan bus garage at Esplanade and Passaic St. was named for him.

This is very interesting. I'm a reporter for Maywood and just came across this while looking for the borough's official channel.

Tim, was your Grandfather Lester Jackson by any chance that you know of in a serious car accident in 1952 in which the driver of they car they were in was killed? The driver was my Uncle, and I am named after him. I'd be curious to know if this were him?

I am not aware of him having been in a serious car accident in 1952, I was born in 1958 and never heard any talk about it so I cannot confirm or deny that it was him.
