Fourth of July Mission Beach 1985

The beach is one of the best places to be to celebrate America's birthday. Problem is if you don't get there early, you might have to turn around if you attempt to go. 1985 was like so many other years...too many cars, not enough parking spaces. A shuttle bus was available but Loren Nancarrow said not a lot of people took advantage of it. Closing roads when the parking areas are full prevents gridlock and kept those who did manage to secure a spot, safe.

I was working at that Jack In The Box that day at 00:18 and 00:44 at the corner of Mission Blvd and Grand, look at that line out the door. I was just 17. It's amazing 39 years have passed and here I sit a 56 year old man, I love the life I've lived between then and now

I had a similar experience living down there in mid '90's, a love hate thing going on while living across from the mission cafe on San Juan I believe, next to the castle. Just before the used jeans shop on the corner closed. yeah the "no parking you will be towed" signs did little to deter most people. and 4th of july was insane. It motivated me to move high into the mountains, escaping the zombies.
