I have a 2014 Mazda 3, and I'll be honest the touch screen is rarely used, the dial is super easy to use while driving and a lot safer than trying to touch a screen.

James Moore text drove the car yesterday. The spin dial was easy to use and intuitive. Rather the wheel than a touch screen any day... way easier to use while you’re driving.

For your info. I'm a 65 year young retired American living not far from the US/Canada border. I am saving Nichols and Dimes right now so I will be ready when the 3 hatch hits the market. I'd like to go with upper trim level, all wheel drive, manuel trans and x engine. My mind is pritty made up. May flex a little and go with an auto trans for my wife's benifit. 9h, almost forgot, soul red christal paint and two tone leather interior. I'v been studying new vehicles for three years. Now I know what I want.

I'm right behind you in considering a fully loaded hatch (you won't be able to get AWD without an automatic trans, btw, and the Skyactiv X engine is a ways away, 2.5 will be sold this year). However I am going to also test drive the 2019 Elantra GT N-line. I'm a little younger than you, I have to explore the sportier side as well...

Mazda absolutely nailed it with this 2019 model. The interior is what Mazda should have used for the 2019 CX5 (that has the older Interior design which feels long in the tooth). The sedan would be my pick here. Although the rear view of the Hatch-back version looks the path but affects rearward visibility without adding cargo practicality especially with those thick C-pillars which make an impression of trunk spaciousness
@nocnoc7092
@nocnoc7092 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, the trunk space was the sole reason behind my choice between the hatch vs. the sedan. I feel like I'm already squishing things in the back of my '14 Mazda 3. '19's model looks beautiful no doubt and I'm so tempted to trade it because road noise got quieter again. But trunk space should be the main selling point for a hatch.

I just got a new 2018 Mazda 3 GT a few weeks ago and it’s been a great car with a few caveats mainly in terms of the dashboard design. There is a heads up display on a separate glass panel. It’s ok but everything could stand to be a bit larger in font. I understand the new 2019 model rectifies this issue. I also don’t care for the regular dashboards huge tachometer display with just a tiny digital speed display on the lower right of the tach, this feels very unnatural and uncomfortable to look at assuming you don’t have a model with a HUD. Otherwise I do like the overall aesthetics of the car and it has decent trunk space. The 2.5LTR 6 speed auto has nice enough acceleration and torque for the average driver and the interior cabin styling is nice. It has a paddle shift but manual shift changes can lag a bit. One other caveat is the location of the engine start / stop button which is obscured by the turn signal stalk. Overall I am really enjoying the car. It has nice ride, comfort and handling with acceptable rear hatch space. As disappointed as I was that I couldn’t get a 4 wheel drive 2019 model with a more modern dashboard, I do think my 2018 model is a nicer looking car from the exterior. Also I wouldn’t have been very happy having any less space in the rear hatch as my 2018 model, so another reason I’m okay having the 2018 over the 2019 model.

In addition the absolute new Skyactiv X- engine is a real innovation as an opposit to the dominating down sizing and electric trend.

non touch screen is actually a positive to me. A lot of manufacturers tend to make the touch screens out of reach which compromises safety. Using an intuitive dial like mazda, bmw, etc, allows muscle memory and your eyes on the road. I don't get why people go ham about non feedback giving touchscreens. They are essentially underperforming tech by the time its in production.

Looks fantastic I'd go with a hatch GT Reserve if they would make one. AWD turbo, Machine Gray w/t Burgundy interior. Real heads up display. With cooled seats and remote start and I'm good.

Massive blind spot = FAIL... No stick = FAIL... No all wheel drive = FAIL... No knobs/touch screen = FAIL... But it does look really nice..

I love my 2013 grand touring sky activ. My car is fully loaded. Push to start, leather, heated seats, lane safety sensors, moon roof. My complaints about mazda 3 hatch are the suspension. Hopefully it has improved tremendously. Its a bumpy ride! Also its noisey! I want the new mazda to be quiet. Steering wheel sucks. This new one looks beefier. Im disappointed in the trunk space but not mad. I hope they come out with a turbo version.

My wife owns CX-3 and if the quality is anything to go by, I don't think new Mazda 3's looks will sell the car for us. I have less (none) issues with my Hyundai Ioniq than my wife has with her Mazda - and considering how stiff prices in Poland are (forget negotiating anything - they think they're "premium" in here), I don't think the new looks outweighs quality issues.

I love the look of this car. It's reminiscent of a Porche 928 with extra doors. Lovely bubbly rear :)

If a guy that was over 6 foot was driving not much room left. If you were driving probably would give the seat and rear driver about 6 more inches.

I’m six foot, and with the driver’s seat setup for me I got into the back seat behind it. It was tight but not terribly uncomfortable. WGAS though, people that buy this car barely ever use the back seat anyways, handy to have in a pinch.

The only place a touchscreen belongs less than in a car is on a bouncing boat. The knob design is by far the best combination of accuracy, control and space-saving, and Mazda did right to follow BMW's lead on that.

I know Australia gets different engine/trans specs, but they get different tire (tyre) specs too? How are Aussie tires going to be 'better" than US-spec tires? Different brand? Different type, like Ultra-HP Summers vs Touring A/S? What will make Aussie market tires better?

need specifics on the Active X engine when available and yes seems like offering the 2.5 turbo in a sport version would be exactly what I would seek and a no brainer for Mazda. .....A GTI competitor with an independent rear suspension , stiffer this and that, more spoilers,etc.

The only thing i will comment here , except the excellent review , is that you have to work on your punches my dude. Injuries on your 4th and 5th knuckles means that your punches are not being focused correctly on said hard areas that you've been punching at.
