Nice video! Ah, the good old days of dipsticks and drain bolts. New cars do not have these, making the job harder. Just bought a high capacity PML pan for my '17 Canyon so I can have a drain bolt. When it comes to maintenance, easier to do means it will get done ;) While in there, it is not a bad idea to check the torque on the valve body bolts. Nice extra effort pulling the pan, would not bother with that each time, just once every great while (like every 60K miles to wipe the sludge and change the filter) but obviously does not hurt to do so. No black fine iron sludge on the magnet. That is one well looked after old Mazda :)

Alright, so I've been checking all over KZbin, reddit, Mazda 6 club forums and more, and this video is the best and most descriptive. I bought a 2008 Mazda 6i 2.3l automatic with 115k miles back in April 2018. ATF was still reddish when I checked sometime early 2019 but now it's very dark brown/black. Just 2 days ago, I saw that the last time the previous owner serviced the transmission (fluid change) was at 99,800miles. I'm coming up at 145k miles in a few hundred. I've purchased 8 quarts of the right ATF, a new filter and rubber gasket. This is where I may need some guidance: should I drain and fill a few times before dropping pan and changing filter/gasket? Or should I do it all at first, and D&F every 2 weeks or so to get rid of all that old ATF for what I'm assuming hasn't been changed for 45k miles. Appreciate your help!

The best way I have found to do it is disconnect the trans fluid line from the radiator, drain it, then top it up and start the car for a few seconds. Don’t let it get too low! Do this a few times until you get all the brown out and it will replace all the old in the torque converter and transmission. Then change your filter and top up. Again, don’t run the car with all the fluid drained out! You’ll burn up your transmission.
@ebravo14 жыл бұрын
@@ventregarage3002 thanks for the quick response! When you say don't let it get too low, are you referring to the 3-4 qts I'll be adding though the trans dipstick? If so, how much do you suggest adding to get everything out, and does this mean I don't have to drain out via the pan?

Thank you for this video I just bought this exact year. I figured out how to do the oil change perfect an was hoping to find a video just like this. So I do have a question for you the transmission on my car seems like it’s starting to go meaning when I first start the car and put it in drive it doesn’t go into gear for about 50sec I want to say an if you rev it it revs then pops into gear I know that’s bad so I wait the 50sec before pushing the gas

What was the solution?
@chadcarr9455 жыл бұрын
@@carlosrafaelmendoza The servo piston bore for the 2-4 band wears and causes the servo to leak oil. Mazda fixed the problem by making the pistion bore out of a harder material. The only permanent solution would be to replace that part with the new one, which requires taking the transmission apart. Since the servo piston is inside the transmission case, it cannot be fixed with any type of ATF flushing, TCM replacement/reprogram, or valve body replacement.

Sovereign Follower until it’s clean. I do mine every two years so it’s always clean. If you have a high mileage vehicle that hasn’t been changed in a while the fluid will come out brown. You need to get all of that out.

I used a jack and stands. I do think it would be easier with a lift. It's not too difficult as long as you have a wobble adapter to get at the pan bolts that are on the frame side.

@ventregarage30024 жыл бұрын
Irfan N, the only reason it would drive worse is if the transmission was in bad shape to start with and when you cleaned out the sludge it started slipping.

Nice Job, but corrosion needs to get some work out. I can recommend to brush all underbody with once boilef lienseed oil. Cheap but perfect. This oil is very small molecular particled und coats all so corrosion will be stopped at once. In Order tget the Surface quicker dried out you would need to boil it once and than paint or spray it. Easy almost no costs effective
