A petrol CX5, as reliable as the sun rising in the morning. A Diesel CX5, as reliable as a politicians promise.

2013 to 2017 CX-5 is a good buy though secondhand especially those that have been well taken cared by it's previous owners. Either it's the 2.0 FWD or 2.5 AWD... It's just don't die on you. Just avoid the diesel version...

Can I ask why you recommend to avoid the diesels?

The car i own 2016 Petrol, other than it's lack of oomph and get up & go I'm keen to hear something critical about it. Although the diesel is said to be a better drive it is also said to be less reliable outside of the warranty period. I'm very happy with mine and after looking at other things will probably end up updating it to the facelift one on at least a 69 plate.

It would have been filmed when this vehicle was first released - so between the 2012-2017 period

How is the diesel reliability? Loads of contradicting opinions? Did mazda sort out it's rust proofing as well. Seem to be really good car, just can't find reliable source to learn about second hand ones closer to ten year old

Diesels are potentially a nightmare, oil strainer clogging up starving oil pump, when you see oil pressure warning light it already too late, bearings are cooked and you need a new engine. Some even replace the oil strainer at certain intervals to mitigate the issue. I'd stay away from the 2.2 if I were you. I'm in the market for a gen 1 CX-5 and have done quite a bit of homework on them. Both the 2.0 and 2.5 are well regarded reliability wise, and haven't found any major issues with the AWD system.

Don't buy. Starts to collapse right after warranty period. Dpf problems, wheel bearing, brakes overall.. Stay away
