I hate that you need an app for the remote start feature. I also hate that it requires a $10 a month subscription. I rarely use remote start, but sometimes I'm going somewhere with my dogs and need to run into a store or restaurant to pick something up. It's nice to leave the car running so they don't overheat. It's not worth paying $120 a year for a feature that you use a handful of times though. It should be included on the keyfob like most other car manufacturers do. The Mazda keyfob is a huge keyfob with four tiny buttons...I'm sure they could fit one more tiny button on it. Sigh.

Who is paying for Mazda Connected Services? My local dealership said that Mazda does not charge for it. Just bought a pre-owned CX-5, registered and use it. No fees whatsoever. It didn't even ask for a credit card.

@@JeffCD77 Do you have access to the remote start feature on the app? The app is free, but some of the features aren't. They may give you all that for the first 6 months or year though. Not after that (to my knowledge). I downloaded the app and the only thing I noticed it did was give you alerts to needed oil changes and other, more or less, useless stuff.

@@sydneywalker2966 Everything works! Remote start, lock/unlock, liftgate, and hazard lights. And it will give you vehicle status info. The dealership told me that Mazda has no intention of charging anybody right now. I specifically asked that question. I have it in writing. You must be doing something wrong or not have a compatible vehicle. All 2021 and up CX-5’s have it. Everyone I know that has a Mazda that is capable of using connected services doesn't pay a penny. It doesnt even ask you for any payment information just your name to set up the app (and the VIN of course). What vehicle do you have?

Jonathan, I just got my 2023 CX-5 Signature and watched your Connected Services video, thanks for all your overviews. You mentioned that if we remote start the vehicle we can have it activate the preferred temps for heat or AC. I have heard this mentioned but not an explanation of where or how to set that functionality. Can you advise, was that removed or where do I find it?

Hi Jonathan, I love this app! I have used it on my Mazda3 hatchback for a few days. Everything is great except it’s a little bit slow when connecting to the car for commands. And my only issue, like you had in the video, is that it takes a few tries to turn off the car from the app.

As theres no way yet to do it from the app, you will have to set it in the car before turning off and exiting and locking the vehicle. Then, when you remote start, it will turn on and start heating or cooling.

You can “link seats to climate” in settings and if heater is left on when you turned it off, they will engage with the heater. The steering wheel will not.

Even my 2010 Chevy Impala came factory equipped with remote start. And it only takes 2 seconds to start it from the keyfob, which I prefer over using my phone. I wish Mazda could get it right.

U can purchase remote start through mazdausa.com then go to accessories then technology accessories. Its a separate key fob. The cost around 400 bucks though.

I have a cx-9 signature and use the app. I noticed if I remote start the vehicle, the app registers an Engine Failed message when I open the doors. Also, my salesman said I could control the temperature and stuff from the app which you CAN'T. I wish I did more research before buying the car because that was one of the reasons I bought it and I feel ripped off. It's not the only thing they lied to me about to get me to buy the car. Although it seems to be a great car, I wish I wasn't lied to.

I’m sorry for this experience. With it being so new, a lot of salesman aren’t familiar with this technology. They shouldn’t have lied to you though. I’m not really familiar with any manufacturer apps that control the temperature. Just turns it on with the car and adjusts based off your last setting. The remote start will disengage when the door is open or unlocked. That’s default/normal. You always have to start it manually. Again, I’m sorry for your overall experience.

@@JSS Yes agree, however the newer Mazda models do not remember the heated steering and seat warmer settings. They both reset as soon as you shutdown the car, so leaving them on will not solve the problem. Another major issue is I cannot load stuff into the car while warming up, it shuts down as soon as I open any door or the rare lift gate! My Honda used to shutdown only when I open the drivers door, all other doors and trunk were ok to open without impacting anything.

My new 2021 CX-30 won't refresh when I request it (Pull down to refresh) What does it mean: Updates may take several minutes. It takes days to refresh. Right now it is 6/19/2021 at 6:34am CDT and the car was last updated 06/17/2021 05:34:08 PM I have requested updates but it doesn't respond. I suppose I will have to take my car in to the dealer.

I just got a new MAAARRZDA (2022 model) with this connected services app. Sadly in the UK no remote start/stop as that feature would be illegal to use (It's a illegal to leave a car unattended with the engine running). I also only have two options on the remote. 1. Lock 2. Locate vehicle which shows your car on a map. The status is more or less identical apart from the language of items uses such as Boot and Bonnet :D The help icon here is a little tow truck symbol (we get free breakdown coverage)

Is the "find my car" feature a valid alternative to fitting a tracker? Or can a thief disable connectivity when he drives off in the car? I'm hearing security concerns about keyless entry and thieves using a black box to amplify the key signal from inside the house and drive off. Has Mazda solved this problem yet?

I’m not sure that you would get any insurance discounts for it, but it will locate your vehicle when cellular service is available. The trackers on the market have more infrastructure for police. I’ve heard of the black box, and not sure what Mazda has done or if anything can be done.

Gut Reactions No it does not. I went to the dealer to enable connected services and still no option to remote start on the app. I found out that they will enable it for 2019 Mazda 3s in October. They will send you a notification from the app to register for connected services, so make sure you create an account on the app with your vin number.

The app and car work off the cellular network, so you don't have to be near the vehicle at all. I haven't noticed a proximity difference.

I have a 2018 cx9 with aftermarket remote start using factory key fob which doesn't turn off car when ending and I don't have to press start. Just apply brake and engage into gear and go. Jonathan, I really appreciate all your videos. Very helpful and informative. I just bought my 2020 CX-5 GTR, but the lack of remote start in the year 2020 is very aggravating. It’s one of those must have features. I know I can have one installed at one of those stereo/ tint businesses but I just don’t trust those places. Do you have any suggestions or advice as far as getting one installed through Mazda? Or if you maybe know of a really good remote start to buy? Any advice would be appreciated!

Mazda still offers a remote start accessory. It would be an extra fob, but installed at the dealership. It seems to work very well. An aftermarket would be additional fob anyway.

Why does the car shut off when you open the door? It should sense your FOB so continue to run therefore. This starting system has some very bad flaws. Not fully impressed.

Mazda uses Toyota’s technology for the connected services. Toyota’s remote start shuts off like that.

The door locks are horrible too. I can't get into my own car (backseat, passenger side and rear hatch) a lot of the times because I don't click the right buttons at the right time. Mazda is so concerned about protecting it's customers from strangers who are going to jump in our backseat (.01% chance of that ever happening) that I can't even open my own car doors if the conditions aren't exactly as some Mazda engineer decided they should be. A person should be able to open their own car door at ANY time for ANY reason with any (official) door lock button! I'll take my chances with the carjackers and car thieves!

I had a 2019 3 hatch and just brought it in for maintenance and you need the update for it to work with the app. Speaking of which I came In for my hatch 3 and left with a 2021 3 hatch turbo 😂

in mazda infotainment system, there is option to create a WiFi hotspot. My google search told me to go to MazdaApp to setup a free trial from Verizon, but there is not such option in my MazdaApp. Can you clarify how to add internet service to Mazda CX-30? Thank you

It’s actually in the car’s settings Settings -> Connectivity -> WiFi hotspot Check the hotspot box and you can set password and SSID in that menu also. Let me know if that works. Enjoy!

ngl that mymazda app feels so buggy to use. I record my miles at 500mi, next time i open the app it decides I'm now at 2499 miles, next time i open again, 1050 miles, next time, 6891 miles. I dunno where its pulling these numbers from but I hope they'll fix it.

Hey jonathon finally got my 2021 mazda cx 5 GT with package today. However ive registered mymazda and connected services. Everything works however when i do the remote start from the app the engine starts but when i go to my car and open the door the engine shuts off and it shows remote start fail. Why is that?

It will turn off when you unlock the car or open the door. That is how Mazda (and Toyota) set it up. This is shared technology from Toyota.

Hello. i'm looking at a 2021 CX-30 Turbo (rumors say it's coming). For "Start", is there any feedback at the car that it has started (flashing lights, for example)? I will be watching from indoors 100 ft away. Approximately how much does "connect" cost after the trial? 3G cellular is supposed to be turned off in Q1 2022. Will this affect "connect"? To use the app do you have to login each time or does it keep you logged in once you have registered. Around me a big problem is leaving the windshield wipers on accidentally, remote starting, the wipers froze overnight and the motor dies - expensive fix. Does remote start turn off the wipers? So it does require a login, but I used Face ID on iPhone. It does not notify you that the car is running, but you can have headlights turned on so they will come on when the car is running. The system runs on available cellular network, so if 3G is turned off, it will still connect. You can also keep the wipers off, and/or disengage rain sensing wipers so they won’t run.

Hey Buddy, I watched this video of yours and it’s awesome!!I got mazda cx5 carbon edition. My issue with this remote access is whenever I used this to start my car it is working though but when I open the door of the car, the car will automatically engine stop. How is that? Is that normal? This remote access is only for engine start for warming up??? Thank you.

Yes that it normal. This technology is shared from Toyota and that’s how their remote start works. It’s more for warming up. Also the key required to start the car before you can drive it. That is an extra security measure.

@@markoyracheta7851 I'm glad I watched this, I have a 2022 CX5 and I did finally try the start and was wondering what I did wrong since it shut off as soon as I got in the car, but okay if it's just for warm up, it makes sense, doesn't do my any good, i park in the garage connected to our home in reserve which means the cars emissions would come straight into the house which would cause our carbon monoxide alarms to go off 🤦🏽‍♀️

great informative video. Thanks for making it. I just have one question though. I have an android smart phone and it currently is working with it, but my wife has a iphone XR. Will this work on both of our phones. Im geussing she just needs to download the app on her phone and sign in with the same info as I set it up on my phone, correct? Just wondering also if she will have to set everything up such as scanning the vin and enrolling on her phone or will that already be set up once she signs in or logs in on the app? I haven’t tested with two phones, but I understand that downloading the app and signing in as the same account will work fine.

@@JSS thanks for getting back to me. Actually I found out from Mazda that you can invite someone to be a user by sending them an email and they can accept. You have to go to Mymazda/my vehicles/manage drivers, and type in their name and email and send them an invitation. Figured you could use this info to share with your subscribers. Guy at Mazda said if the person just signs in with your login info they may get a security code which they wouldnt have readily available because it would have been sent to the primary drivers phone.

How far away from the car can you be in order for the remote start to work? For example, will it work if I'm inside my house and the car is parked right outside along the street?

Yes it will work from across the country if car and phone have service.

@Eric Bishop that's physically impossible. It can receive satellite signal which tells it it's position. Unless Mazda launched its own satellite to communicate to it's cars :) It's using cellular network

These Mazda Connected Services are separate from the Traffic and Travel Link Trial, correct? I'm interested to know more about live traffic updates to the Nav system, a feature that Mazda has lacked for many years now. I believe you said Nav will be a standard feature in the 2021 CX-30 premium, and the sticker showed a Traffic and Travel Link Trial. Any more info on that?

Yes it is different features. I have to get more first hand experience with those options. I drove the CX-30 for a video yesterday and going to upload today, but there’s not enough traffic around the block.

@@JSSI live in the UK. I believe the Mazda dealership did reset the service date on my Mazda6 as I checked it and they also gave me a print out of the new service done. Is there something else I had to do? The app still holds the current previous service. I reinstalled the app and restarted the Mazda app... Still holding previous service?
